To have just called 101

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 00:30

Yes I know it's the ultimate mumsnet no no. There's a huge party going off in the flat above me. There are rules against noise in the flat after 11pm. I went up to ask them to turn it off and they refused.

So now the police are coming. The guys are...intimidating to say the least. I'm just terrified now they know the number of the flat that I live in that I've opened myself up to a nightmare with them. They didn't look like the kind of people you mess with (yes massively judging). I'm on my own tonight and I'm scared.

If anyone says anything to you (unlikely) you just feign ignorance, anyone could have called them.
Were they rude to you when they refused?

I've just called 101 too. There is building work going on behind me at this time Angry I hope you get it sorted.

Salmotrutta · 01/03/2015 00:35

YANBU.

It isn't "a Mumsnet no-no" to call 101. Why would you think that?

It's only a no-no if it isn't a criminal act or an offence under other acts.

As long as you aren't calling 101 because someone put rubbish in your bin I don't see the problem.

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 00:38

I was next to them when I called the police. The police took my address. So now these guys know where I live. I'm scared. My other half is away tonight. I know I'm being pathetic but they said stuff like 'go and get five grand to make her go away'...In my crazy imagination I link that talk to drug dealers and all sorts of not nice things (may have watched too much Breaking Bad).

OP posts:
fluffymouse · 01/03/2015 00:41

What did you say to get the police to come out?

I assume it is because they are behaving threateningly, not because of a nice complaint. If they are threatening you then that is definitely a police issue.

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 00:52

They are threatening in the way they are acting. Not in their words. So a large group of men coming towards me. Big guys. To give some context. These are naice flats. Young professionals. And these are dodgy guys.

OP posts:
fluffymouse · 01/03/2015 00:55

You are absolutely right to call the police then, though I doubt they will do anything but speak to the neighbours (bitter voice of experience).

my2centsis · 01/03/2015 01:06

You can't be too scared of you #1 went up there to tell them to turn it down and #2 called the police right it front of them

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 01:09

Good point. I have form for making stupid impulsive decisions! The police were amazing though, said lots of people have complained. I am cursing the likes of Air BNB who let people like this just turn up at flats and assume everyone in the building is on holiday.

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 01/03/2015 01:14

What's happening now?

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 01:28

Music back up. I am just angry at the selfishness of people. We are in central London. Go and party in London! Don't know what to do so leaving it I guess. It's not going to be a battle that I win. They have a DJ in there with a microphone that keeps giving that squeaking feedback. It is horrendous.

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 01/03/2015 01:30

I feel so sorry for you. It's incredibly stressful I know. What a pity that there was no point in calling the police as nothing has changed.

AntiHop · 01/03/2015 01:39

They're having a party with a dj in a block of flats? That's so inappropriate! Call you local council's noise pollution line. They are often open 24 hours a day and have the power to remove speakers and other equipment.

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 01:49

Thanks for the sympathy. The noise pollution guys say the party is too big for them to do anything about. It's a landlord marketing it on airbnb so he will be served with legal papers next week.

I was worried that they lived there permanently and would make my life hell for complaining. At least that isn't the case. When I went to talk to them they said 'we own this so we can do what we want'. Luckily that was a lie.

fizzycolagurlie · 01/03/2015 01:52

God this is awful. And it reminds me of my own experiences of living in flats in various parts of London. No more, no more I tell ya!

CultureSucksDownWords · 01/03/2015 01:56

You could contact Airbnb and detail the noise complaint, police visit etc and ask them to remove this landlord from their listings. There is clear advice in their guidance about noise and nuisance.

Gruntfuttock · 01/03/2015 02:21

" The noise pollution guys say the party is too big for them to do anything about."

I don't really understand that. Confused

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 02:31

That's just what he told me. It's huge. 100's of people, massive set up. They just don't have the power. Not sure I can post videos on here of what it's like. This is not your average party.

OP posts:
differentnameforthis · 01/03/2015 02:37

Call the police again...thankfully in Oz the police will come out & speak to people if music is too loud, any time, night or day! And if it goes back on, you call them again & they have power to remove the source of the noise/fine people.

I don't know it isn't like that in the UK. Living with noise like that is very disturbing

Blondiemama · 01/03/2015 03:02

How are you doing OP. Call the police again if you have to until it gets sorted.what a nightmare for you :-( if there are some dodgy looking guys-could you report what you suspect them to be doing so that the police come and search? That might kill off the party!

AntiHop · 01/03/2015 03:26

Even if they were the owners, they would still have to abide by noise pollution laws.

Jewels234 · 01/03/2015 03:34

Sooo, police came again. Music stopped for 10 mins. Then started again. Police don't have the capacity to come out again. They can't do anything. The landlord will be dealt with. Meanwhile my Sunday is a write off.

I know this ranks very low on the list of bad things happening in the world. But I'm just so angry at the selfish attitude of people. There are thousands of people in flats around here, and yet a group think it's acceptable to bring a club into a residential apartment. I couldn't do that. I spoke to some of the girls coming in who basically said 'we don't care, we have just come to party'

OP posts:
RandomNPC · 01/03/2015 04:20

What a bunch of selfish wankers

CaspoFungin · 01/03/2015 04:42

How big is the flat to fit 100 people in??
