To feel unnerved when the wait-staff don't write down your order?

First world problems, I know!

But, AIBU to feel unnerved when the wait-staff don't write down your order but stand there nodding instead?

I can be a fussy eater so there's usually at least one change requested and I can't help but think that something is going to be forgotten.

Today, my steak was cooked more than I asked for and the mayonnaise was forgotten (nothing serious and the meal was delicious!) but I can't help but feel that it's a trend and designed to show off attentiveness whereas I'd much rather it just be written down in the first place!

I know I don't go out to restaurants very often, but "wait-staff"?

Suburban - I mean waiters, people who take your order and serve your food

I think Suburban knows what you mean but why 'wait-staff' why not waiter? Is it because wait-staff is non gendered?

I don't see how not writing it down is considered 'premium'.

Yes - easier to say wait-staff.

Oh for goodness sake Suburban. This is the second thread I've been on tonight where you have tried to detour the thread onto something random and ridiculous.

No issue with this, never had a wrong order from someone who memorised our order rather than write it down. They normally then go to the till and send it through to the kitchen electronically.

Livsmommy you must come across as very condescending when you ask that! You do know the staff have time alone with your food don't you Wink ?!

We had this in a local place once. I am a bit anal so even asked if they wanted to write it down. No She Would Remember. Lo and behold one meal came completely wrong and one was forgotten. Did not resist the urge to point out the obvious advantage of pen and paper. ...

Is it not waiting staff in the UK?

Where do you live op?

We were in London in a pizza place , ten of us round the table including children ... The waitress stood and nodded when we gave our large order ..
Very impressed when everything arrived perfectly Smile

YANBU.

Looking hard at a certain pizza joint which carefully checked allergen information for me with an excellent allergens menu, told me to how order a dairy and gluten free pizza with the exact wording needed, didn't write it down and I'd eaten a fair amount of it trusting that after all that work it was goats cheese as agreed before I realised they'd lost track of the information somewhere on the way and piled goats cheese on top of mozarella.

Thanks for the three fecking days I felt like hell while that got out of my system again. Angry Getting to the point of not only wanting them to write it down but to attach allergen warning cards to the order when it goes to the kitchen that should be returned with the right plate. Eating out is a nightmare.

Mintyy, I'm in the UK.

I was going to post with 'waiter' in the OP but didn't want it to come across as if a man couldn't remember aswell as a woman. It's equally annoying to me when both sexes don't write down!

For info, I was in TGI Fridays so wasn't expecting silver service Grin

I was out to eat last night. There were 7 of us. I found it novel and reassuring that the waiter wrote our orders down. No mistakes!

livsmommy · 01/03/2015 19:39

Trunki yes I know, that's what my DP worries about Grin I'm always super polite when I ask though!

EveBoswell · 01/03/2015 19:50

Would we be rude to ask a waiter or waitress to write down our orders just for our own peace of mind?
