Aibu to think this is more than just a cold?

My son is 15 months old and has been unwell for all of feb. It started off as a bad cold with chesty mucusy cough, snotty nose and sneezing. Then came conjunctivitis on top and eventually leading to a very high temperature and random
vomiting. This was the worst stage that left a very active boy floppy and barely responsive, heavy breathing etc. we have seen the gp first to clear up the conjunctivitis where we highlighted the length of cold - dr said its common and expected with this age lots of it about building up immunity blah blah. Prescribed eye drops. It worked no more conjunctivitis. Went back a week later saw a different doctor did a thorough check up and believed it to be a viral infection so medicate with paracetamol. The week that followed was when it peeked and he barely drinking and eating so saw a different doctor who saw him at his worst recognised our concerns and prescribed antibiotics and paracetamol. Ds showed improvement he became more active and happy ate more and drank more. Had two days of being back to 'normal' albeit with runny nose and lingering cough. But the temperature came back and he is now completely dependant on calpol if he doesn't take it he is floppy, drowsy and clingy. For example just laying
on the sofa staring blankly. I'm not criticising the doctor who has been very supportive I am just wondering if others have had similar and whether I need to be more forceful?

So my question is AIBU to think a boy of this age shouldn't be on maximum dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen to keep him functioning?
What would you do? I'm starting to really worry.

YANBU. I don't really have any advice to five you, sorry, but I would also be worried in your situation. I think you need to keep bothering the dr.

Maybe you could ask for a blood test?

Whilst its common for toddlers to have constant colds and infections for the first few winters this does sound like it has dragged on. I would insist they run blood tests to rule out anything else. Hope your little boy is back to his active self soon!

I would definitely take him back in and ask for another opinion. Its frustrating when you know your child is not well and you are being turned away from the doctors but it seems to have lingered for a long time so please persevere with getting him checked over again.

Thank you for you responses. I think I will request blood tests. It just seems such an awfully long time with no real signs of him getting over it, where he deteriorates so quickly without paracetamol it seems unfair to test to see how he copes without it. Surely it can't be healthy to have max dose for more than a week? It's also so awkward to facilitate his illness when we are both working. It's really hard going.
