... add a pertinent or witty comment?

"Oh no, I'm not place marking or anything" does not count as witty.

I never expected this to end up as a discussion about bustards. [comfused]

Back so use the 'bookmark' option instead of littering threads with pointless place marking comments?

emotionsecho · 28/02/2015 14:19

Mardy the weird and wonderful world of MNGrin

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/02/2015 14:26

Yeah sorry Mardy. Derailing is worse than place marking isn't it Blush

daisychain01 · 28/02/2015 14:31

I thought the answer was "You Bus-turd" (turd being one of my favourite words)

Hopeful that makes me nosey and unhelpful < this is just a thinly veiled disguise to mark my place on this spiffing thread >

In all my years.. I never connected I'm Watching with people marking their place

MardyBra · 28/02/2015 14:33

hearts. I like a good derail. Just amused.

back. I wasn't aware that there had been a recent thread on this. You are welcome to hide this one. However it must be an issue if it is being mentioned " week in week out".

And I agree emotions. The love the serendipity factor of MN.

Grin Shatner

otherwise (this only works on bunfighty/gossip/otherwise controversial threads) go on ostensibly to tell everyone off for enjoying bunfight/gossip/other controversy

thus managing to claim the moral high ground while also getting the thread top of your tio list

job's a goodun Hmm

chocoluvva · 28/02/2015 15:46

Ooh! busturd - a pun that just keeps on giving.

Derailing is for train coaches.....

Perhaps I should bus off now.... Grin

I don't like 'place marking', but watching a thread doesn't do the same job, as BackForGood describes. If there's a long or fast moving thread - some of the ongoing threads which get to 1000, and may accumulate dozens of posts quite quickly, it can be hard to keep track of where you'd already read up to, unless you always add a post when you finish reading (then just search for your own name the next time) . People have mentioned 'bookmarks' - am I missing something, is there a way to mark a particular post in a thread?

magimedi · 28/02/2015 23:12

Yes, go to customise & you can opt in for bookmarking your place on a thread.

But I don't think it works on all platforms - possibly not on the app??

I used to like this Bustard but it seems to have scrubbed up a lot.

BobbyButtons · 28/02/2015 23:28

Coach/bus pun on 'bastard'

You might be thinking of a buzzard.

OMG that's the funniest thing I've read. Ok, I have been drinking.

But really.... That's soooooo funny

DH had just asked what I'm doing (ie not coming to bed)

BobbyButtons · 28/02/2015 23:29

Sorry....was that the kind of post I wasn't meant to make....in case it was place holding.....

Sorry!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2015 23:37

Thanks OK...hmph, it's only available in the 'New' style...so, I've changed to that, bookmarked a post, but I'm darned if I can see any sort of 'go to bookmark' widget.Confused Am I still missing something?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2015 23:43

oh, ok, it did go to the marked place if I left the thread and came back to it.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2015 23:56

Hm - not quite the behaviour I was expecting, and also just bookmarking a post doesn't put the thread on the 'i'm on list' so you'd still have to either put it on the watch list or add at least one post.

CadleCrap · 01/03/2015 07:40

The problem with book marking or watching threads is that you don't know when they have been deleted as they just disappear.

magimedi · 01/03/2015 08:28

You only get the MN deletion message if you have posted on the thread & look for it in "Threads I'm on".

I suspect if you also got the message in "Threads I'm watching" there would be less placemarking posts.

AuntieStella · 01/03/2015 09:33

They went for really dull deletion messages for a while, because of an outbreak of 'place marking for deletion messages'.

It's still quite rare now to get anything other than a basic reason.

chocoluvva · 01/03/2015 09:54

Ooh - the bustard inn looks lovely. Grin

I wonder why things that are hopeless/rubbish/a fail/unfunny are described as a 'turkey'. Turkeys are quite cool IMO!
