We only filled one bin bag in the last two weeks

Aibu to be a little bit impressed with ourselves as a family of four (including a baby) plus one cat?

We have a separate bin for recyclable waste and all appropriate food goes in the composter for dh's allotment but it was still a surprise when we noticed there was only one bin bag for the binmen to collect. It's kind of inspired me to see if we can do more and make mine and dh's games of bin jenga even more exciting

And yes I know this isn't the most thrilling topic of conversation but three month olds aren't great at conversation, as gorgeous as she is.

We only fill one bag every 2 or 2 and a half weeks. That's two adults and a hefty teenager.

Join me in feeling smug.

MirandaWest · 25/02/2015 17:49

I have been filling many bags recently. We are moving house soon so I feel it's all right :)

ahbollocks · 25/02/2015 17:51

Where do you put your nappies?

CuttedUpPear · 25/02/2015 17:53

We fill one bin bag a month.
Two adults, one teenager.

WhereIsMyCoffee · 25/02/2015 17:55

Same here probably.

ahbollocks reusable nappies and wipes are my friendSmile

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 25/02/2015 17:56

I clearly need to up my game! Grin I'm going to have to keep track of what is going into the bin bags in future and see if there's anything else we can cut out.

We use reusable nappies ahbollocks.

I suppose it depends on the size of your bin bag! You can get ones now that line the black wheely bin so must be a fair size.

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 25/02/2015 18:22

Oh wow! I'd never manage this. Nappies and litter trays ... They fill the bin pretty quick.

DefiniteMaybe · 25/02/2015 18:24

Wow that's brilliant. There's 5 of us and we fill a bin bag at least every 2 days as well as filling the recycling bin!

DownAtFraggleRock · 25/02/2015 18:25

yeah my two cats could fill a bin bag between them in two weeks with litter alone Grin

BrieAndChilli · 25/02/2015 18:27

We have a nappy bag collection so nappies and wipes are seperate from normal waste. Thinks eh then recycle them
We have red bags for all paper and card
Purple bags for all metal, plastic and glass
Food waste bins and garden rubbish bags
Not a lot really goes in the normal bin just stuff like cellophane bags, food bags, odd bits of rubbish etc so only 1 bag a fortnight (although it is pretty squshed down by then) for 5 of us.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 25/02/2015 18:33

It was just a normal sized bin bag, wouldn't be as impressed if it was a wheelie bin size one. The cat does her business outside so we don't have litter trays to empty which helps obviously. (We did have a litter tray when we got the cat but she never used it - and don't worry she uses next door's garden and their cat uses ours so peace and unity is preserved on that front Wink)

kewtogetin · 25/02/2015 18:37

Well I fill a huge wheelie bin every week and couldn't give a fuck Smile

ThisOneAndThatOne · 25/02/2015 19:31

Same as Kew. We fill a wheelie a week and couldn't give a fuck Grin

skittycat · 25/02/2015 19:31

I haven't managed to get the hang of recycling very well - 2 wheelie bins full every two weeks. I'll master it one day.

Salmotrutta · 25/02/2015 19:37

Do you cook from scratch as well OP...

Wink
foreverton · 25/02/2015 19:39

Recycling bin always used but fill two wheelie bins( and then more usually)
And we Get them emptied fortnightly.
Used to be weekly until council decided to encourage more recycling.
Luckily, our neighbours without dc seem to always have room in their bins for our extra rubbish.
I do not know where it comes from.

londonrach · 25/02/2015 19:43

Wow how you do that....2 adults and with seems to be two bin bags a week.....grrrrr. Dont believe in food waste recycling as its very dangerous food hygiene wise, but recycle cardboard glass etc...

crazykat · 25/02/2015 19:59

We fill our wheelie bin within a week, two adults and four dcs, one still in nappies. We could do with a bigger bin tbh but getting one is like winning the lottery.

We don't have food recycling but we recycle all plastic/paper/glass/tins.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 25/02/2015 20:51

Cook from scratch? God no! There's a reason I was so impressed with our lack of non recyclable waste over the last couple of weeks you know Wink

We haven't got recycling facilities for cooked food waste, but there's little of that anyway due to dh finishing off everyone elses dinner.

LMGTFY · 25/02/2015 20:54

That's awesome, I swing between wanting to achieve this and having DS jump on top of the bin bags in his wellies to get more in!

MarthaMonkeynuts · 25/02/2015 21:01

Our council collects our non recycling bin every 3 weeks (!!!) but doesn't allow us to put any plastic other than plastic bottles in the recylcing, so my bin is full of punnets, youghurt pots, food trays etc and overflowing by collection day...and if the lid can't close they won't take it!

CallMeExhausted · 25/02/2015 21:18

Well then. No stealth in these boasts.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/02/2015 21:21

Our recycling bin is always full

We used about 5 bin bags a week but they're only a quarter full as old cat food stinks and I just change the bag - damn cat only licks gravy

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 25/02/2015 21:22

That is impressive, I have filled 2 bags today Blush. I am having a big pre moving house clear out though.

We seem to generate a lot of rubbish, despite recycling everything possible. We live in the city centre so have a tiny 'slimline' black bin too, so we're often making trips to the tip. I don't know how to reduce it! Pretty sure DD's nappies half fill our bin in a week!
