Re. builders leaving stuff outside our house

Next door are having some very annoying work done. Builders keep trying to block off the parking space in front of our house with debris / old beams every time we go out in the car, and also leaving stuff all over the pavement outside our house. AIBU to expect them not to do this?

YANBU. Tell them you're having a skip delivered and anything left dumped on your property will unfortunately be going in it.

rosepetalsoup · 24/02/2015 12:05

It's not out property, just the pavement and road in front of our house.

Is it on your property or on a public road/pavement?

If it's your property then you can tell them to shift it or else, but if it's on a public road or path then you're best off complaining to the council and having them come out and see.

rosepetalsoup · 24/02/2015 12:09

It's on a public road, but a very small street, so just outside our house.

sorry, xpost. Then contact the council and have them come out and see if they consider it a nuisance.

Oldraver · 24/02/2015 12:12

Have you actually spoken to them ? I would ask them poilitely to not block you in

They shouldn't really be dumping it on the street or road

Agrestic · 24/02/2015 12:13

Before you start complaining to the council can't you just ask them nicely not to do it? Have an conversation about it?

JudgeRinderSays · 24/02/2015 12:17

You're kidding, right? They'll think all their christmasses have come at once if you supply them with a skip!!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/02/2015 12:37

That's true, didn't think of that. Grin

insancerre · 24/02/2015 12:45

Have you tried speaking to them?
Are they actually causing damage or an obstruction?
Or is it just inconvenience?
Can you not just put up with it till the work is finished?
Is there an where else they can actually put these things?
I would be inclined to just suck it up because you never know when you might have building work yourself
Its really not worth falling out with the neighbours over trivial things

OOAOML · 24/02/2015 12:51

Agree with those suggesting talking to them first, but if they won't stop then agree the council is a good place to start, or the fire brigade if they are blocking access (we thought about doing that for people who were blocking parts of the stair in our flats, but they moved stuff after we politely pointed out the fact they were blocking access).

bigbluestars · 24/02/2015 13:02

I would speak to your neighbours rather than the builders.

Not sure what "annoying work" means Hmm but in general I have found that neighbours are generally pretty supportive of work which is enhancing or maintaining properties nearby.
I would explain the problems you are having with access and perhaps discuss timescales too.
