WIBU to Ebay something (maybe for £££) that I got for almost nothing on FB?

A friend of a friend was selling a beautiful but scratched handbag on Fb for £10. I would never in a million years be able to afford it new or 2nd hand in better condition. I decided to take a punt on it and see if I could polish the scratches out or colour them in with pen.

I went to collect and she was lovely, said the bag was a gift from a friend and that she was happy someone would get use out of it as it had been in her loft for ages.

I took bag home and coloured in with brown Sharpie and it looks fine. But the bag is actually not what I was after as the straps don't fit over my shoulder and I know I won't carry it around in my hand.

WIBU to Ebay? I would obviously show pics of the scratches.

Go for it

Shesparkles · 24/02/2015 10:21

YANBU, it can be really awkward when you end up being landed with something in that way...you bought it, you can sell it

WorraLiberty · 24/02/2015 10:22

Can't see a problem

I think sometimes it's a terribly 'British' thing, to feel guilt at making easy money Grin

notnaice · 24/02/2015 10:22

You couldn't if it was offered just to you as a favour, but in this case you just bought something that was generally on offer to anyone for £10, so yes go for it.

Snozberry · 24/02/2015 10:24

YANBU. People can be a bit weird about buyers reselling stuff for more money but it is now yours and you can do what you like with it. If you make £££ then good for you.

Brutalista · 24/02/2015 10:25

If it sells for £££ you could give her half. I did this when a friend gave me an unwanted chicken house, I changed my mind about getting chickens, flogged it on gumtree and gave her half the £80

DialsMavis · 24/02/2015 10:29

I think the £££ was an exaggeration after looking at completed listings, but I think it might get for £30 or so.

It is terribly British to worry isn't it ? It was in a selling site & I have seen the wrath incurred by resellers!

Hmm, if you colour in the scratches with felt tip, when someone goes out in the rain and the bag gets wet, the colour could well run. Not nice if the bag is touching their clothes. Otherwise, I can't see why you should feel guilty selling it on, after you've taken the trouble to smarten it up.

Thanks for responses by the way

I would be totally honest about my half assed repair job.
Sharpies have rescued many a pair of shoes and work trousers in this house

Give it 6 months, then sell it.

morgyworgy · 24/02/2015 10:33

If you got £30, you would still have to pay ebay and paypal fees and postage. You also might get less than £30. Hell, you might get less than £10 it's you taking the gamble and you paid for it fair and Square
Go for it And Good luck

I've often wondered the same. I bought a Cath Kidston bag from a FB selling page but it's just not me, am thinking if trying my luck on Ebay too. Glad the consensus is generally go for it as I wasn't sure how I felt about it Smile
