to be a bit annoyed with sportsdirect

I couldn't find what i wanted on the high street so I resorted to online ordering and the only place I could find it was Sports direct. So, I placed an online order for something that cost about £30. Then I added in a couple of pairs of socks. There's a delivery charge of about £4.

First, the website automatically added a magazine for £1 to my order. However, i noticed before I sent the order and deleted the magazine.

Then at 7am this morning, I got an email from the company saying that they were cancelling my order for the £30 item that I really wanted. Then a few minutes ago, before I had even noticed the email, the rest of the order arrived. So, I've basically just paid £6 for a pair of socks that are worth £2, and I am back to square one with trying to buy the thing that i actually need.

Note to self.... NEVER order online from Sportsdirect ever again.

ScotsWhaHae - no they make you pay for delivery to store too.

Yeah I just checked. No one else charges to collect in store do they? No one I've ever used!

MaudeLebowski · 24/02/2015 10:57

Thanks var - I bet I don't get this jacket. Looking for a backup on Trekwear now.

MaudeLebowski · 24/02/2015 11:03

Mine is out with the courier - surely, I'd have got a 7am email too if they didn't have the jacket?

MaudeLebowski · 24/02/2015 12:05

Everything turned up! I even got my first big ugly mug - 100% free.

var123 · 24/02/2015 12:43

That's great. I hope it all fits.

For me, this has been a lesson learned: be wary when dealing with sports direct. (I think I will spend 5 mins checking what they charged my debit card just in case)

I'd get them to credit your delivery, var123. Seems reasonable to me.

As for that big ugly mug - a couple of times they've sent me one, even when I have removed the default tick to order one for £1. Which by the way is illegal. The Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 (actually introduced last year) make it illegal for companies to add chargeable items that the punter has not selected.

SistersOfPercy · 24/02/2015 13:43

The mug thing isn't necessarily always charged. I've had them in the past and not paid £1 for them. They are useful for storing pens if nowt else.

I had a similar issue var with an order from Top Man, strangely ending up with a pair of £1 sale socks that ended up costing me about £6. Like you they gave me no option to cancel after informing me 90% of my order was OOS and just dispatched.
I had a bit of a moan, told them I'd never have paid £5 delivery for a £1 pair of socks and they refunded the lot, socks as well. Grin

I hate this shop. My kids call it 'stupid direct' as last time we went I couldn't find a bleedin' thing and wandered around mumbling 'stupid shop' almost constantly.

EdSheeran · 24/02/2015 14:02

I love the big ugly mug, it's so useful!

Bumbiscuits · 24/02/2015 14:19

Var, have you contacted them?

var123 · 24/02/2015 14:27

No. I've been trying to do some work. Will try later though.

var123 when Ched Evans was just about to be signed to Oldham FC, most of Oldham's sponsors (inc Nandos, and a ton of others) said they'd end their sponsorship as they didn't want to be associated with a rapist (or words to that effect). Sportsdirect were fine with continuing to sponsor Oldham with Evans on board. I'm not boycotting, and don't judge anyone else who shops there (I shopped there all the time before!), just haven't yet got over my revulsion at the way they behaved enough to want to go back in.

mrsmootoo · 24/02/2015 19:09

We love the mugs! Kept getting them by accident and have so many we give them away to school fairs, but they are a great size.

I will never shop there again. So, about a month ago I brought three pairs of shoes for my children from Sports Direct Online. When they arrived, one of them was completely the wrong size to which I had ordered and the other was damaged so I decided to return all three shoes via distribution. I made sure that I noted that I wanted the money back onto my debit card on the return slip, however, they returned all the money back onto a store voucher. I don't usually shop in sports direct, it really was a one off and now I'm stuck with this stupid voucher. When I emailed customer service, they said that there is nothing they can do now as it is on a voucher and they can't return the voucher for money! When I called up, one of the representatives basically told me that it's my fault for returning all of the shoes. I can't believe this, it's absurd. Not all the shoes were a change of mind, I'm not at fault and now I'm out of pocket because I had to pay a TWO delivery charges. I had a few of cases like this with sports direct but I thought it would be different if I brought online... obviously not.
