Advice on Horsham schools / Horsham in general please!!

Hi,
We are thinking on leaving Kingston in the next few months to make the move to Horsham.
Our families are from Kingston / Surbiton however we are paying £1000 for a 2 bed flat in rent and could get a 2 bed house for the same.
We have 2 children, a 3 year old son and a daughter of 5 months so the schools need to be good for both boys and girls.
I hear st Wilfred's in Crawley is the best secondary but there are also single sexed schools in Horsham that are meant to be good, Millais and forest?
Or tandbridge house?
What is the area like in general?
Estate agents no hope, in fact 2 have been downright racist informing us to just steer clear of Crawley as it's Sutton immigration central on a bigger scale. So won't be asking them for any further advice.
Thanks for any heads ups :-)

pbwer I'm curious, why? Personal experience?

Have you considered Broadbridge Heath? Shelley primary is fantastic. my son is thriving there.

Northernparent68 · 26/02/2015 08:12

I went to at tan bridge and it was appalling, that was some time ago now but and it has nt improved much. I really would nt recommend it.

I wouldn't recommend st Wilfrid's. My friends kids all go there (as did we) and the are really fur coat and no knickers. But the only catholic secondary for Crawley/Horsham/horley/east grinstead.

I like Horsham and heard good things about schools. I live in Crawley though and have done my whole life. Thinking about moving to Horsham when we move (although it would be a nightmare journey for my work). Tandridge house is right near north heath lane.

Only reason for moving is housing prices and availability. Crawley gets a bad press but rents are just unreal at the moment. We are in a long term rental at the moment (been here 5years) so are paying way under market rates. We want a bigger house though.

Btw I don't know anyone who lives in Crawley that comes from Sutton. What a load of bollocks lol. That is one place I wouldn't live (dh works there and for some stupid reason I am going out there tonight - I'm taking my hard hat!)

Grew up near Horsham, it's definitely nice, not sure on Crawley secondary but if you could wrangle it transport wise, The Weald in Billingshurst (secondary and sixth form, the primary is separate and I have no experience of it) is very well regarded in Sussex.

We always found Horsham a very friendly town, good variety of shops and good transport.

BlackBettyBamALam · 28/02/2015 21:44

The Weald is good but almost impossible to get into unless you live next door Wink

Horsham is nice and lots of good schools. Hate the health care though - takes 40 mins to get through on phone to doctor and can't get appointment for ages. Millais is meant to be nice. Tanbridge not so.

Not much for teens to do, but it's a nice family town. Southwater is lovely, you should consider it. People say north Horsham/roffey is the 'rough' part of town which makes me laugh because I'm from a large city up north and wouldn't describe anywhere in Horsham as rough.

Very expensive property wise but good transport links to London etc.

Come visit before you make a decision. Have a look at the different areas.

LaLaLaaaa · 01/03/2015 22:15

Oh and Horsham buses are good. Regular from town out to either roffey or Southwater

msgrinch · 01/03/2015 22:33

The weald is not just "if your a neighbour" we lived in kingsfold and went there!
