My ds is 5 months old he is teething and due to efb gets thrush quite a bit in his mouth (poor thing must be so tormented)

anyway he always has his hands in his mouth and dribbles constantly. my problem is that his chin is now so chapped that it's bleeding!! I'm constantly putting vasaline and sudacream on it but it's not helping

any other suggestions?

vaseline probably won't help because it's a barrier cream (so is sudacrem) - all that's happening is that you're keeping the air out. it's fine if there's moisture in already, but if he's dry, it won't help.

You want to try an oil like olive oil or coconut oil, first.

and if his chin is chapped, then maybe keep a proper check on the dribble - make sure you dry it (dab it dry, don't rub) constantly (a dribble bib is useful for that), and the as soon as you've dabbed it dry, apply the oil.

you really do have to do it constantly, which is annoying, but it keeps on top of it.

Pop to the pharmacist, they are such a wonderful help. Personally I wouldn't have a clue sorry.

You could try bepanthen perhaps?

Try applying breast milk, it's really good for healing minor ailments on babies.

DD used to get terrible dribble rash when teething and the HV recommended Aveeno cream. It's not cheap but it goes a long way and it did work for DD.

LokiBear · 23/02/2015 22:09

Aveeno was amazing for my DD's skin. I still use it now, it solves every skin complaint in a day or two.

Callaird · 23/02/2015 22:27

I always advise Aveeno. It is expensive but if you go to the doctor, you can get it on prescription.

I got some double Base for my 6mo it's lovely stuff. We had been using canisten for 3 weeks with no change then a few uses of this and it's almost all cleared up.

could Lansinoh nipple cream help?

MakkaPakkastolemystone · 23/02/2015 22:48

If he has oral thrush and there is an open wound on his chin, it might need an anti fungal cream to clear it up. At that age, I'd speak to GP tbh.

Waltonswatcher · 23/02/2015 23:20

Gp first .
Then I'd recommend lush -I don't use it myself but my dear friends sons skin has totally transformed since trying it . I think its called Miracle Cream . Anyway, the repeated thrush should be looked into . That's not normal .
Poor you and poor baby .

Go to your go who will likely prescribe anti fungal steroid cream which should clear it up. We use tons of fleece backed dribble bibs (bandana style) to help a bit.
