to want to complain about this?

Mid December I bought a dinner service from Tesco. The set included plates, side plates and cereal bowls for four, then I also purchased four extra pasta bowls.

In this short time, one of the Pasta bowls has broken clean in half, and two of the cereal bowls have deep cracks down them. Two of the side plates have chips out of the edges.

We are not careless, dont own a dishwasher so all dishes are done by hand, and we dont even put them in the microwave. Not that this should matter as they were dishwasher abd microwave safe.

Our previous set was seven years old, just a Matalan set, and in the seven years we broke one side plate and one main plate had a chip in it (usual wear and tear). I dont think this amount of damage in two months is wear and tear.

The set is quite chunky so I really didnt think we would have these problems with it so soon.

AIBU to want to email a complaint? I dont even know what resolution I want - I really like the set so some replacement items, but then that doesnt stop the same happening again in the future.

Yes complain, I would and I'd demand a whole new set!

I would too. I've had my plates etc. For 14 years.

RandomNPC · 23/02/2015 09:46

I'd complain too.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/02/2015 09:48

I'd complain.

Shops get away with selling rubbish precisely because people don't complain!

Complain, worst they can do is say no! :)

DustyBedhead · 23/02/2015 09:49

Yes, I would complain, you've had them no time at all and they shouldn't be in the state they're in with normal use.

00100001 · 23/02/2015 09:50

I recently took back some school shoes, after about two months. The soles were peeling away from the upper - not good enough, after only a couple of months of use.

I wasn't convinced they'd do anything, but they gave me a new set! Sproglet had gone up a size in the meantime too!

Boomf · 23/02/2015 09:52

They're not fit for purpose so just pop them back to Tesco with your proof of purchase and they'll either refund or replace - whatever you want

grumpasaur · 23/02/2015 09:54

Definitely complain! That is rubbish. Personally I would get a refund, just because a new set of the same will likely have the same fate. IKEA may be worth a look in?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 23/02/2015 10:01

Thing is, we used our clubcard points (doubled in December) to pay for them so a refund would still leave me with no dinenr service and needing to pay for one. I will email and see what they say

I dont have the receipt but assume it is trackable via my clubcard?

Complain. And if you get a refund use your CC vouchers to buy Denby vouchers for their stoneware - they regularly run sales and are almost unchippable.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 23/02/2015 10:06

This set was stoneware. Freezer safe and chip resistant too. Apparently.

this is the pasta bowl

Boomf · 23/02/2015 10:13

Well, yes - a refund would still leave you needing to buy a new set but what else can a store do but refund you or replace?

I wouldn't spend too much time over thinking this one. Just pop down and sort it out

SweetValentine · 23/02/2015 13:18

This is the set my Dad bought 15 years ago, not a scratch or a chip. Not even sure if they've broken one? We have the same in a different colour, but I know we've broken one or 2, we're very clumsy.

YANBU I bought cheap Ikea plates ( 49p each I think they were) for my wedding, they have been used daily since then and only now 8 years on they are starting to crack. We microwave and dishwasher them too. So I would expect a more expensive set to last at least that long!
