To Really Want A Steam Cleaner <boring>

JollyFrog · 22/02/2015 22:04

I've just watched an Ad for the H2o X5 steam cleaner and it looks fab!
Has anyone got one? At £79 it's not cheap but it does everything!
I'm easily swayed
Then I got to thinking maybe there is another brand that's better? And do I really need a steam cleaner in my life??!!

Any experiences lovely MNetters?

I suppose it depends on what flooring etc you have - I have terracotta floor tiles and granite work tops and love my steam cleaner - also use it for sinks, basins, toilet - any hard surface really, so if you have enough to use it on, then go for it!

sooperdooper · 22/02/2015 22:08

I bought one and think it's crap, never use it, it's a vax one and wasn't cheap but I've never been impressed at all

ARoomWithoutAView · 22/02/2015 22:10

Now that's an idea........

I did buy a cement mixer in the sales. Need to repair the patio, so it looked a good buy. Its orange, with black wheels. They didn't do fuchsia.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 22/02/2015 22:10

I barely use ours. Never seems to actually clean the damn floor. You need to sweep, mop and then steam stuff that.

Bumbiscuits · 22/02/2015 22:11

I've got the Karcher one. I like it, though I'm a slattern and don't go overboard with it Grin

JollyFrog · 22/02/2015 22:11

I've got mostly carpets Hmm but a stone conservatory floor (tiles) but it showed this H2O thingy cleaning grout, windows, car wheels, ovens, tiles, toilets etc etc but I'm worried it will just be a fad, £79 is a lot for me to spend on a whim

I have one... It is utterly useless.

When it first arrived I was underwhelmed to say the least, it is not even close to performing how it shows on the tv.

Now it is a space sucking pain in the arse...

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 22/02/2015 22:13

I've got one of the Karcher ones that they gave us to review. I used it for the review, wasn't that impressed and haven't used it much since.

You can have mine if you like. Grin

ClumsyNinja · 22/02/2015 22:14

I've got that one. Bloody brilliant! Floors, loos, cookers....

You do need to regularly descale it as the boiler unit inside is narrow and it can get furred up easily, according to stuff I've read on the net. I usually put some lemon juice in mine when I top up the water tank.

JollyFrog · 22/02/2015 22:14

Hmmm maybe I will save my money and continue with my bleach and toothbrush Grin

Do it they are amazing ! says she who didn't actually buy one but constantly borrows her mums!!

JollyFrog · 22/02/2015 22:16

clumsy is the hand held bit heavy/awkward to use? I think I would prob use that part more than the 'whole' thing

Tbh, I use mine a lot. My 8 month old DS2 has severe reflux and is sick v frequently, bless him.

It is a bit of a faff though although does clean my carpets well.

FluffyCubs · 22/02/2015 22:19

I have one and hate it. Also, if you steam clean everything, it sucks the home smell out if everything and plaCe can feel so sterile

SycamoreMum · 22/02/2015 22:19

Save your money! I bought a cheap steam cleaner (£15 amazon) , and tons of bleach. Between them my place is germ free!! (I hope...wish I had one of those germ detectors like on Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners Hmm)

14575 · 22/02/2015 22:20

I've been deliberating a steam cleaner for months now toooo watching with interest. Unsure about our floors though as they're Karndean and don't want them to come unstuck! Has anyone used on this type flooring please?

Postchildrenpregranny · 22/02/2015 22:23

There was a thread on about the Morphy Richards 7 in one one , which I'm considering It's about £50 and MNs seemed to think it was good

ChocolateCherry · 22/02/2015 22:33

I really convinced myself I needed one. It's ok I suppose but tbh it's a bit of a faff to set up and does no better job than me with spray cleaner and a cloth.

The problem is that they don't suck up the dirt, so although it gets hot it only really moves the dirt about. Quite good on the shower door but I still find I have to actually clean it too with elbow grease. I just use the steam cleaner to finish it off.

MamaLazarou · 22/02/2015 22:41

YANBU, steam cleaners are brilliant! Ours is a Polti Vapretto, highly recommended.

The amount of gunk you'll get out from around your kitchen sink will astound you. Like cleaning under a giant dirty fingernail. Lovely.

engeika · 22/02/2015 22:46

I bought one for the sterilising/deflea-ing purposes. Great for mattresses, carpets, floors, walls. It is a faff to get out but I like using it.

londonrach · 22/02/2015 22:55

Sent my back to amazon. Only seemed to make the floor wet. No cleaning. Gone back to mop and bucket...

SASASI · 22/02/2015 23:13

I have that one & I hate it, I just can't get to grips with it!

Considering getting the morphy Richards one to see if it's any better & if not I am giving up on the steam mop dream.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 22/02/2015 23:14

Those that like them have to give the names of the ones ye have!! I'm mad to buy one too!

MrsSippy · 22/02/2015 23:21

I bought a Shark in the January sales and I love it!! I have hard floors all downstairs (oak parquet, ceramic tiles and vinyl) and it cleans and dries in seconds. My son has used it to clean the interior of his car and I have done loads of things around the house.

Daisychain5 · 22/02/2015 23:53

I really wanted one , bought it, regretted it. It's seriously shit. Never use it now.
