Harry Potter World advice please

Aibu to take my 3 yr old to Harry Potter world? We have the opportunity to go next wk but I'm worried she is too young. She doesn't like toys that make noise, so
I'm worried there will be attractions that will scare her. Has anyone been there, what are your thoughts? Thanks.

The London studio tour? I think a 3 year old would be bored silly by it. It's very much a tour of sets, props, costumes etc. If you're a Harry Potter fan it's amazing, but I can't see a 3 year old being interested at all.

Charlotte3333 · 21/02/2015 15:27

We went this Tuesday just gone with ES who is 9 and YS who is just 4, and they both loved it. I'd take her if I were you; there's plenty there and lots of space to run about. This week they had Hedwig, Hagrid's dog, Hermione's cat, Ron's owl and loads of staff who could answer questions and who were endlessly patient with YS.

A word of warning, though, the shop is phenomenal and you'll spend a fortune there. And want to watch every film again as soon as you're home.

avocadotoast · 21/02/2015 15:27

I'd add to that - I don't think there would be much to scare her, as there isn't really much in the way of rides/attractions (except a green screen broomstick ride thing).

If she's the kind of kid that can deal with museums, I think she'd manage. Otherwise, maybe not! I can't think that the little ones I know would have been interested in it at 3.

ArabellaRockerfella · 21/02/2015 15:30

I also don't think a 3yr old would enjoy it. If you mean the studio tour. There are no rides its just an exhibition of the props, costumes and special effects. It is an amazing place and well worth the visit but I think 9/10 would be the minimum age to get the full benefit, it's not cheap and probably a once/twice only visit so save your money until she is older.

mygrandchildrenrock · 21/02/2015 15:45

I've been a couple of times with different age children but wouldn't take a 3 yr old. I would wait a year or two.

Lozy79 · 21/02/2015 15:51

Thanks for the responses. It is the studio tour. We are in the area and always wanted to go. It doesn't cost anything for my 3 yr old so it wouldn't be a waste of money in that way, but it will be if we go and have to leave if shes frightened. Sounds like that's not the case. Mmm still not sure whether to go. Confused

I have taken a 3yo but because I was taking his 7yo dsis. He loved it and talks about it all the time but he is a strange creature who also dislikes things he should love. I wouldn't take a 3yo on their own tbh.

Showy · 21/02/2015 15:52

If you want to go, I would. Just wouldn't do it as a specific thing for a 3yo child. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

LL12 · 21/02/2015 15:59

I think a 3 year old would get bored.

PtolemysNeedle · 21/02/2015 16:48

I don't think she'd be frightened, but I don't think it's worth a day out for a child of that age unless you live right round the corner and it's free for all of you.

I wouldn't worry about taking a three year old as a younger sibling of an older child who'd love it though, or if you want to go for yourselves.

nequidnimis · 21/02/2015 17:15

I also think she'll be bored. I think you need to be old enough to enjoy the books/movies otherwise it wouldn't be that interesting really. But if you've always wanted to go then I can't see why not, but you'll need to entertain her.

TidyDancer · 21/02/2015 17:23

We've been, but a while ago. It's an expensive day out for a DC who may not like the noise anyway. I don't recall it being especially noisy tbh, but depends on sensitivity etc.

It's not in London though OP, so if you're 'in the area' I hope you mean Hertfordshire (or willing to travel).

Musicaltheatremum · 21/02/2015 17:39

It's not for a 3 year old. Fine if you're taking older kids but unless you really want to see it I wouldn't go just for the 3 year old. My kids were 18 and 21 when we went. We grew up with Harry Potter.

Charlotte3333 · 21/02/2015 17:45

The only thing that frightened YS was the giant Aragorn hanging from the ceiling and the Book of Monsters in a cabinet (it moved and he squealed for a second). Nothing else that I remember scared him.

It's not noisy or crowded especially, and YS loved wand-practise and pretending to ride the broomsticks in the greenrooms. If you're nearby and she's not too much of a handful I'd give it a go.

Whippet81 · 21/02/2015 17:55

I'm taking my 5 month old next week :D but that's because we want to go. I'm not expecting him to get much out of it.

ihearttc · 21/02/2015 19:26

Im taking DS1 who is 10 in a couple of months but leaving DS2 who is 4 at home with DH.

Can I pick people's brains on how to get there-We would probably get the train from Norfolk which goes into Liverpool Street. I think then if Ive read it right you can get another train from Euston and then a bus? I have no issue with travelling etc as DS1 is a huge train geek but just wondered how long roughly it was likely to take rom Euston?

TourGuideBarbie · 21/02/2015 19:28

I took my 3 year old twice, she totally loved it. And now she's 4 and still remembers going!

Norfolkandchance1234 · 21/02/2015 19:30

I'm sure she'll be fine but I waited till my youngest was 7 and they'd watched most of the films to get the most enjoyment out of being there.

needahandholdplease · 21/02/2015 19:31

Don't do it! I was bored as an adult and i love harry potter.

BobsTaintedLeftLeg · 21/02/2015 19:31

When you say you have the opportunity to go, do you mean you have tickets bought already?

Because it's not just a turn up and go in thing, you have to have pre bought tickets.

autumnboys · 21/02/2015 19:32

We took ours recently and Ds3 (for good reason, but trying to avoid spoilers!) thought Harry Potter was actually there and dragged me round at top speed trying to find him. It was a bit frustrating.

BobsTaintedLeftLeg · 21/02/2015 19:34

Depending on if you get the fast or slow train from Euston, 25 mins to an hour.

Slow train stops at every stop to watford j.
Fast stops once I think.

At watford j is a stop for the Harry potter double decker bus, can't miss the bus!
And it only goes between the junction and the studios.

ihearttc · 21/02/2015 19:41

Fab thank you so much thats really helpful! It sounds definitely doable then...if we book for just after lunch we should have plenty of time to get there.

Apologies for hijacking the thread btw

newstart15 · 21/02/2015 20:52

"Don't do it! I was bored as an adult and i love harry potter"

I slightly agree..I love HP but more of a book fan, rather than films.I found it disappointing but should have realised its about the films as the clue is in the name..Studio tour!

Lozy79 · 21/02/2015 21:02

Hi I'm staying overnight in an hotel only 20 or so minutes away from the studios and home is 2 hrs away. So i thought as we do want to go at some point, now would be a good time. It wouldn't be for her, but I'm not sure she'd get bored as shes so interested in everything at the moment, everything is 'why' though which can be a little bit irritating! Tickets are still available. I'm thinking we should go Smile
