Should I expect my DC to get to go outside?

My DC are at a childminders (wrap around care) and nursery respectively. When I signed them both up, I stressed that outdoor time was crucial for us and I was told that fresh air and going outside was important and regularly done blah blah blah. At the nursery, it turns put that there is a rota to use the garden and the maximum each room can have a day is 30mins. Some days they don't go outdoors at all.The childminder does not even take them out to her garden (on sunny days, during ten hour days). The only time my child has been out to the garden was the day we visited the house to sign up. Now it boils my blood that I was effectively conned at the point of signing up with these entities...please tell me there are childcare options out there where they DO get proper outdoor time? Or do I need a nanny?

Move next to me! My neighbour is a CM and her garden is small but wonderful. Theres a play house, tree swing, ball pit, slides in summer etc etc. She takes her mindees to the park most days. Theres always children in her garden, rain or shine. I just wish she was around when mine were little!

Yanbu-when my eldest 2 ds were at nursery, they had regular time outdoors with play equipment and chickens to feed. They did watch DVDs but I have no problems with that as they do at home and it's a good way for them to relax as the rest of the time they are full tilt.

Ds3 goes to a childmimer who takes him for a long walk every day, with her dog, so he gets lots of fresh air, along with trips to baby groups and the supermarket.

It does sound worrying that you find the child miner a bit scary too. I wouldn't hesitate to change your childcare.

Gosh, DS spends the best part of the day outside when he's at daycare (and at home!). Even on rainy days they have an undercover area that the kids can play in. I'd not be happy at all if he were kept inside all the time.

Childminder sorry, not child miner.

My daughters cm is out every day. Since January she has only stayed in 1 day. They go to several parks, swimming, toddler groups, soft play, museums etc. I don't psy extra for the activities.

It was part of the agreement that dd might not get a morning nap as they would be out and about and if she could nap on the move then great but they all wouldn't stay in so she could sleep.

I am a CM.. All my pre school children go out every day..However the after school , walk home and go out in the summer but not so much in the winter unless holidays.

CM are not required to follow EYFS for school children .

YANBU. I think it would be fair enough for a childminder to put the TV on for the odd half an hour if she's on her own but I wouldn't expect a nursery to do it. I can't imagine keeping healthy kids in all day unless the weather was terrible - what on earth is she finding to do with them for all of that time?
