To be just a tiny bit sorry there's no damage to my car

Some supercilious twat attempted to patronise me after he rear ended me in a stream of traffic last week.

He attempted to patronise me by calling me 'young lady' - to which I came back with 'gosh, I'm mid forties how old are you' in a sarcastic tone. He went very red and stuttered he was 29.

Then he tried the 'you were driving too slow and you could have not let the bus out' - the huge unmissable double decker was pulling out anyway, I hadn't flashed him out.

So I took photos - "there's no need for that darling, I can't see any damage" and I insisted on his name and insurance company while he tried to 'darling' me out of it in an attempt to be charming.

I got my car looked at underneath and there's nothing wrong.

And I know I should be grateful - but actually I just want the wee patronising twat to get a bill

Get it checked out anyway, there could be internal damage.

You should still be able to sue for whiplash if you wish to. DP got sued for it and the claimant won, very similar situation to this.

ratspeaker · 21/02/2015 11:53

You had the brakes checked? DH was parked and some numpty shunted his car, the brake pads took some damage.

Under the Highway code you are supposed to let buses pull out, if he couldn't see a double decker then he shouldn't be driving.
He should also be driving safely enough to be able to stop.

desperatedino2015 · 21/02/2015 12:00

Yep get it checked anyway, could be unseen damage.

We were rear ended last year, she caused over £4000 worth of damage as she was looking at the shops and not ahead.

TwatFaceBitch · 21/02/2015 12:03

Have you checked you can open and close your boot? Sometimes it can look like there isn't and damage but a couple of mm movement on locking mechanism can knacker it.

MissDuke · 21/02/2015 12:05

When this happened to my mum, the floor of the boot was all bent and had to be repaired. Maybe get a 2nd opinion on the car and hope for the best?

Oh the fine suited, fresh faced, trainee solicitor that womped into the back of me last year tried all that young lady, madam, my dear crap.

Then he tried lecturing me on road etiquette, my faulty understanding of the highway code and how my actions would have voided my insurance, he would be claiming cash damages and on and on and on.

Oddly my faulty understanding of the highway code had caused me to stop at a zebra crossing to allow a gaggle of school kids cross... lollipop lady and all.

The lollipop lady took his details and he admonished, quoting confidentiality and data protection (don't ask, I have no idea how a number plate is sensitive information) but she just laughed at him.

I put in a claim, as you would, there was a bit of damage to the rear bumper and those things are expensive. He sent me a letter on his employers letterheaded paper... that sealed his fate really. Insurance company laid the blame at his door, his employers were horrified he had used their name to try and bully me and the SRA have barred him.

Sometimes they do get their cumuppence...

OhBuggerItAgain · 21/02/2015 13:58

Originally the lollipop lady carried a piece of chalk and recorded the number of any car which did not stop or was going too fast etc. The black line is painted with blackboard paint
