To think Waitrose could at least put a stamp on marketing mail

Instead of expecting me to pay £1.53 at the post office for an unstamped/unfranked envelope.
I wasn't the first to arrive at the PO today clutching a card to pay excess postage, they reckoned they still have 50 behind the counter.
grump

But you don't have to take the post, do you? You can just refuse to pay and they have to just throw it away. If it's just junk mail why do you even want it?

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 18/02/2015 12:42

our post office make you pay before you see the post, so you have no choice. either pay and get the junk mail or risk to being something more important and not getting the letter.

HamishBamish · 18/02/2015 12:50

That's very naughty. It must be an error on their part surely. I can't see any company think it's a good idea to make their customers pay to receive their marketing material.

LegsOfSteel · 18/02/2015 13:03

Sounds like an error. E-mail them. You'll probably get a voucher to spend.

changeychangechangeychange · 18/02/2015 13:11

In the Waitress scale of compensation I guess that will be at least £15. They have £5 vouchers they give out in store for very minor things all the time

changeychangechangeychange · 18/02/2015 13:18

LK Bennett just sent me one with REAL stamps on. 1 x 1st, 1 x 2nd and 1 x 2p stamp. Sadly as their shoes are now crap and the patent leather on the last 2 pairs have split whereas those 10 years old are still going strong- it went straight into the bin.

FishWithABicycle · 18/02/2015 13:18

Waitrose will more than compensate you I am certain. Obviously a mistake but obviously you deserve your £1.53 back plus extra for the wasted time.

FishWithABicycle · 18/02/2015 13:20

(it's probably not Waitrose who made the mistake - probably a mailing house sending stuff out on their behalf cocked something up massively - Waitrose will, if they have any sense, have a contract with the mailing house that they will indemnify Waitrose for any financial loss due to any negligence on their part, which this will cover)

ratspeaker · 19/02/2015 11:30

I emailed Waitrose.
Have heard nothing back
I've also gone into my online account and taken myself off contact lists, may mean I'm missing out on offers and vouchers but hey if it saves me having to beetle up to the Royal mail collection place, which is only open part of the day, it's worth it to save the hassle.

It must vary from person to person at the counter if they'll let you view the envelope before you pay, I had a Christmas Card from my "stepmother" last year where she hadn't put a stamp on. If I'd known it was from her I'd have not bothered paying
