To go the drop in with a sore foot?

I did a long (for me) walk to work on Monday, followed by a run/walk back hone again. My foot is really sore now. I took some pain killers and managed to walk there and back again today but it is incredibly painful.
The pain is on the outside edge, sort've underneath and there is a bit of swelling and a bruise on the top/side.

Is this something worth bothering the drop in with or would they send me away?

Stress fractures won't show on an X-ray until it has started to heal and the fracture calcifies. I went to hospital twice with my foot by the second time it was twice its normal size and purple with pins and needles but they just referred back to the original X-ray which had been taken early on and said it wasn't broken. My GP referred me to a foot specialist who I saw about 6 weeks later and he re xrayed and said, yep it's a fracture but almost healed so just rest it, keep off heels, no running etc. I had been walking on it for several months by this time and had been in agony. The hospital had given me nothing but some mild painkillers which did sweet FA to stop the pain.

I have just googled minor injuries and it says they are there for sprains and strains as well as fractures, burns, grazes, cuts etc, etc. So it seems that it is perfectly acceptable to go there with my foot.

I was wearing proper running shoes and I walk daily so its not a case if not knowing what I am doing. It just happens that I walked further than usual on Monday.

Bruising has spread and I have some weird tingling going on.

I think it's a good ideation be seen given your symptoms.
By the way, I like that you called it a 'drop in', I don't know why but it rally tickled me. Grin

How did you get on ?

DrMeep · 19/02/2015 00:07

Yeah, I've been wondering about your foot... Due to all your descriptiveness, I think my old breaks are throbbing in sympathy!

Hope you are ok, or at least on the mend :)

Hi all, by the time I finished work my foot was feeling much better so I didn't go to the drop in. It was bad again this morning but eased off by this afternoon so I think its just a sprain and I will live to walk another day.

Thanks for asking Grin

Take painkillers and stop walking so much on it.

Don't waste their time. All they will do is tell you to take pain relief, put ice on it and keep it raised and rested.
