to JUST give pancakes for dinner??

I have never done this before in my life. In my family pancakes were for pudding, after a proper dinner.

But now it's 4pm, we haven't long finished lunch, the DCs have just had a banana milkshake and I can't quite be arsed to make dinner.

My DH's family used to only have pancakes for dinner on Shrove Tuesday. I used to think this was pretty close to neglect.

What do you do?

What is Pancake Day? We have pancakes here all the time. We have them for dinner once a week with bacon, eggs, and fruit.

just pancakes

HSMMaCM · 17/02/2015 17:54

Pizza pancakes with cheese and tomato, followed by sweet pancakes with anything really sugary we can find.

Topseyt · 17/02/2015 17:58

I am looking forward to "neglecting" my lot very soon, and only doing them pancakes for dinner. Grin

I put out several toppings, savoury and sweet, but I have to say that lemon juice and sugar is far and away the favourite.

On Shrove Tuesday we always had just pancakes for dinner. My mother would cook loads of them, and we just plastered them in lemon, sugar, golden syrup etc. Food of the gods.

There us no such thing as just pancakes. Wink

DS won't let me do just pancakes. Sad
He has AS and it's just 'not right'.

Amummyatlast · 17/02/2015 18:51

Just pancakes here. DD (18 months) had pancake with banana, followed by a yoghurt. I had three lemon and sugar pancakes and DH has a mixture of lemon and sugar and banana and Nutella pancakes.

GreySlippersBobby · 17/02/2015 18:55

We had pancakes, bacon and maple syrup for lunch. Nomnomnom.

Bolognese for dinner though.

Marmiteandjamislush · 17/02/2015 19:24

It's essentially carbs and fat ignores possibility of sweet toppings just pretend you are giving them chips! Grin Our boys have just wolfed down their pancakes and only pancakes very happily. They love them because they know that there will only be lenten meals for the next forty days, which are very plain and there will only be fish and no oils ect. It's a mega treat for them.

I am a convert!

DH and DC were thrilled. 'Leftover' pancakes to start (baked beans, scrambled egg, ham, cheese) followed by sweet pancakes with banana slices and melted green & blacks. Lovely!!

Thanks all!!!

I have had pancakes for every meal today. I'm very proud of myself. Lemon and blueberry American style pancakes for breakfast. Soup followed by a banana and syrup pancake (in waitrose) for lunch. Cheesy kale pancake for tea followed by a lemon and sugar one for pudding. Woohoo I win.

fleecyjumper · 17/02/2015 21:11

It's very exciting for kids to just have pancakes for tea on Shrove Tuesday. When else are they usually just allowed pudding!

SummerHouse · 17/02/2015 21:15

Stuffed pancakes are LUSH

last night we had them with pesto, salami and cheese
tonight with ratatouille and ham
one of the best is stuffed with spinach and fromage frais
or beans and anchovies
or baked beans and bacon

think of them as a proper crepe and they become a FABULOUS weeknight supper

queenmools · 17/02/2015 21:30

Thank you summerhouse

I have this argument with DH every bloody year. He always had pancakes for pudding, I always had just pancakes.
Savoury pancakes ming IMO (although I don't mind them in lasagne).
I cook so he makes himself beans on toast or soup and everyone else eats delicious sweet pancakes. but not me as I'm low carbing
