Think it seems like too much sugar! Off to a pancake party this morning, don't want to give him a sugary pancake but don't want to offend anyone!

Do you think I could take a banana and pit a bit of that on instead? Or will I look a bit pfb?!

SweetValentine · 17/02/2015 09:07

I wouldn't think you pfb. I wouldn't put sugar on either

benfoldsfive · 17/02/2015 09:07

I don't think any one will care what you put on his pancake Hmm

JudgeJudyKicksAss · 17/02/2015 09:08

Banana will be perfect! Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

TheLastThneed · 17/02/2015 09:11

is the pancake party for babies? Are you sure they'll be putting sugar on them?

I'm sure you'll be able to choose what you want...

GobblersKnob · 17/02/2015 09:11

Wouldn't have dreamed of it with pfb, he probably had it with asparagus or something Grin

DC 2 had theirs smothered in nutella Wink

SweetsForMySweet · 17/02/2015 09:12

YANBU
your dc=your decision/choice= nobody else's business.

SecretNutellaFix · 17/02/2015 09:12

Why are you making the assumption that they will automatically have sugar on them?

He can have them totally plain without anything added.

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/02/2015 09:13

exactly it gobbGrin

OwlinaTree · 17/02/2015 09:13

I'm sure you're right benfolds. Thanks for the reassurance sweet. The party is for babies up to preschoolers really, so a variety.

I am sure no one will care - just do what you want - I don't think I would even notice. Also its fine not to put sugar on it not pfb at all (god I hate that phrase). My 2.5 won't be having sugar on his tonight
When ds was smaller if it was something which would usually have jam or something I would use 100% fruit spread

actually thanks for reminding me I shoudl buy more. Its sweet - fruit a bit of a funny color but v v v yummy

SummerHouse · 17/02/2015 09:17

This is very pfb but I think pfb is a beautiful thing. I was very pfb and proud of it. Sadly my first thought was honey which shows how far from pfb I am now! Totally forgot this is contraband till one!!

My guess is if they even have sugar at all, they will have lots of sugar alternatives. Banana is perfect. Bet they have a host of fruit. But take a banana just in case.

ILovePud · 17/02/2015 09:18

I doubt anyone will care or notice what you are putting on your DC's pancake as long as you don't make a point of telling people what you are doing and why you are doing it as then in might seem to them that you are making an implicit criticism of them. I wouldn't put sugar on a 11 month old's pancake either btw and I don't imagine you'll be the only one there who won't add sugar. I make pancakes quite a lot (veggie stuffed ones are one of my staple teas) and all of mine have enjoyed plain pancakes as finger food when they were that age so I'm sure your LO will enjoy them and enjoy the party Smile.

OwlinaTree · 17/02/2015 09:21

Thanks summer, I'm a bit pfb about his diet as me and dh have to watch our weight, don't want that for him.

SummerHouse · 17/02/2015 09:22

... And report back. I love pancakes and I want to know what toppings they have. Perhaps not for pfb by nigella boils a punnet of blueberries with maple syrup.

SummerHouse · 17/02/2015 09:24

Sorry cross post. I just look mean nowBlush. Totally understand that. Hope you have a lovely time. I am jealous.

RoganJosh · 17/02/2015 09:26

I would just lie and say 'he loves them with banana' and imply you've done them before.

TheLastThneed · 17/02/2015 09:26

DD is 5 and I never sprinkle sugar on anything she eats...obviously she eats it in cakes etc and she has honey, so she isn't starved of sugar, but I just wouldn't sprinkle granules. ..

Maidmarigold · 17/02/2015 09:27

No one will care unless you make a point of saying that you wouldn't give your baby sugar and therefore judging those who do. Banana sounds perfect. Enjoy.

Davsmum · 17/02/2015 09:31

Why would you care what they think? You don't have to explain yourself.
If asked, I would certainly say I don't give my baby sugar. If they felt that was judging those who do then they cannot be confident in their choice to do so.
The medical evidence is that sugar is bad for us. No one has to take notice of that if they don't want to. If you choose to - don't be apologetic about it.

Notso · 17/02/2015 09:37

I put lemon and sugar on my 4 DC's first pancakes it didn't occur to me not to.

justalilmummy5000 · 17/02/2015 09:38

I put yoghurt on ds pancake

OwlinaTree · 17/02/2015 09:39

You don't look mean summer. I think that's it maid I don't want others to think I'm judging their choices. I know fruit is sugar, sugar is sugar etc, but it just feels a bit much somehow!

OP posts:
GertrudePerkins · 17/02/2015 09:42

like gobblers, i think I made dd1 savoury pancakes until she was about four

dd2 had nutella and jam on her first pancake IIRC.

Kerberos · 17/02/2015 09:43

DP eats his with salad cream. Yes it looks as odd as it sounds.

Rest of us go with icing sugar, and occasionally chocolate sauce.

You do seem a little anxious about this OP? Although it seems perfectly reasonable to me to want to limit sugar for an 11 month old.
