To just stop taking my antidepressants?

I appreciate I probably am being unreasonable but really can't keep taking them any more.

I'm on 100mg sertraline and they really aren't making any difference to my MH. I'm still as anxious and my eating disorder behaviours are getting worse. The apathy I'm feeling is new and beyond frustrating. I have days where I don't even get out of bed, and I've never been like this before.

On top of this the side effects are driving me potty. Among other things I'm not sleeping through the night and am having terrific night sweats, so spend half my night waking up in a clammy bed. I also need to wee all the time, day and night.

So AIBU to just stop taking them? Surely being off them can't be worse than being the sleepless, listless zombie I am at the moment?

Are you getting counselling/therapy at all?

I found that far far more effective than pills etc.

Your call, OP, but echoing others who say to taper as slowly as possible and put aside your impatience to get the stuff out of your system. I came off Seroxat too fast, and the withdrawal effects were debilitating.

I'm on the list for therapy - it's a slow process getting help. It took four months for my assessment at the ED clinic (during which time I went from just having the mental health issues to starting to have physical ones as a result) and now have another 4-6 months wait for therapy. It's so frustrating. It feels like they're subduing me with the drugs when the therapy is what I need. A pill won't fix the fear of food ffs!

Is there any chance at all that you could go private?

I found that things really improved after only a few sessions from someone properly trained and experienced in exactly the right area. It isn't cheap but you can make more progress more quickly...and who knows how bad things might get in 4-6 months (ffs-how can it possibly be right that you have to wait so long!)

please do not just stop taking them go back to gp for advice or your psychiatrist

look of the BACP website for low cost counselling in your area if you really feel you can not wait but you will be advised not to see two therapists at the same time so ask your gp if it is possible to see one sooner
