7 months ago I was on here in tears because I'd discovered my H was having an affair. You were fabulous, you bloody nest of vipers, you.

It's been shit at times, I won't pretend it hasn't been, but life is so much richer without him.

I'm now living with a fellow MNer and we're about to uncork the champagne to the sounds of Beyonce's Single Ladies...

So I'd like to say, to anyone that reads this and is in the same situation, you can and you will get through it - and joy lies on the horizon!

Congratulations!
I am going to see a solicitor on Thursday to get the ball rolling and I can't wait to get it over and done with.

EveBoswell · 17/02/2015 13:38

Flowers for you OP. Well done!

I remember the day my decree nisi was due and my birthday was the same day so I went to Court with a colleague specially to hear it announced. Colleague knew that it was my birthday and told others in the waiting room. When the announcement was made, they all clapped, said Happy Birthday and wished me well.

Round of applause for the OP, everyone!

Anyone here remember - professionally or personally - when the decree was not just announced. Every undefended divorce was heard with the petitioner going into the witness box and giving the usual answers to the usual questions. It kept some members of the Bar in modest comfort, and when it was replaced (beginning in 1973 and completely in 1977) some of them had to give up practice because it was all they had!

SeaMedows · 17/02/2015 19:00

Thank you, everyone. A heck of a lot of shit still to wade through before I'm out of the dung hill, but I'm on my way!

Just remember when the shit flies off the shovel to aim it ex-wards!

Within days of my decree absolute arriving (which my XH thoughtfully applied for without telling me Shock) I had freedom tattooed about my person.

I've never regretted that for a nanosecond Smile

mineofuselessinformation · 17/02/2015 19:15

UpNorth, I bought myself a 'divorce ring'. I'm always rather pleased when anyone admires it! Smile

UpNorthAgain · 17/02/2015 19:31

Mine that's a good idea. I feel it's such a significant milestone that one should celebrate in some way!

Andrewofgg · 17/02/2015 20:04

UpNorthAgain If your XH was the petitioner he did not have to tell you that he was applying for the absolute - and the OP does not have to tell hers. If he was the respondent he could only apply on notice and if the court did not send you the notice that's not his fault. I guess you don't much care either way!

SeaMedows · 17/02/2015 21:29

I'm musing on getting both a tattoo and a divorce ring.

And whacking great divorce diamond earrings, too.
