To drive to Nando's just to get a mushroom and halloumi cheese burger?

I can't get it out of my head! I can practically taste it. What is wrong with me? It's over 30 min drive away and I know it makes no sense whatsoever but I am so close to picking up the car keys and going for it. (I may get something for DH too so it's not a completely selfish act... Is it? )

I've never had a nandos but you've made it sound delicious. Shame I've just checked and the nearest one is 45 mins away Sad

bumbleymummy · 16/02/2015 16:32

Vile temptresses! Grin Right... I'm going to present the idea to DH

Careful, now. There is a very heartfelt thread going on just now about the evils of McDonald's, fruit (particularly mangoes ) and calling things like this a treat. Oh, and sugar. The poor Op just wanted to know what people thought about getting a happy meal for dc and pals.
BTW get one for me while you're there.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2015 16:43

'macho peas'
seriously hoping this isn't a typo.

bumbleymummy · 16/02/2015 16:43

Does nando's fall into the 'evil' category?

Unfortunately it is not happening tonight. DH working late so I have to collect kids and a round trip to Nandos will not work time wise :(

However! I have persuaded DH that we NEED to take children to the cinema this week and nando's just happens to be beside it (how convenient) so I shall be enjoying my burger, fries, corn and custard tart in the near future :)

Still tempted to make my own version this evening as well though. Mmmmmmm salty cheese....

Macho peas and creamy mash mmmm.

When DS was newborn and feeding constantly I met my MIL in law in town to do some shopping and after feeding him for the fourth time in two hours I came over very faint and felt really weird. I was in floods of tears and generally babbling nonsense about being about to pass out.

We were outside Nandos and she pushed me in, sat me down and bought me two of their custard tarts that had just come out of the oven.

They were amazing! I have no memory of anything tasting as good as they did at that moment.

Admittedly I was very hormonal, knackered and had horrendously low blood sugar!!

youbethemummylion · 16/02/2015 16:50

I am a new convert to halloumi and I am in danger of becoming addicted. Someone on another thread mentioned deep-fried halloumi with chips and mushy peas and I so need that in my life!

sparkysparkysparky · 16/02/2015 17:07

Nando's not evil but the delicious loveliness that we are now all craving probably falls within that definition for some.

CaptainHammer · 16/02/2015 17:08

I need Nandos this week now!
Please have the pitta with red pepper dip to start (and save a little dip for your fries, amazing!)

SuburbanRhonda · 16/02/2015 17:11

Here's a gorgeous Delia recipe with a lime and caper vinaigrette to counter the sometimes over-saltiness of the halloumi.

Makes a great starter with some good bread Smile

Slongette · 16/02/2015 17:18

Omg the warm pitta and red pepper dip - a savanna dry cider want now

Ohfourfoxache · 16/02/2015 17:21

Oh bloody hell, I've only ever been to nandos once and didn't think much of it.

However the thought of a halloumi and mushroom burger - phwoar! With extra avocado.

Disclaimer: 37 weeks pregnant and I've craved halloumi for weeks. Only halloumi - no other foods or strange combinations Grin

Patilla · 16/02/2015 17:40

Oh no I'd forgotten how good nandos was.

I've never tried the mushroom and halloumi but it sounds great.

Worst of all I've got one within ten minutes drive and another one twenty minutes away.

swooosh · 16/02/2015 17:42

YABU.

You need it in a wrap with added avocado, with a side of chips and perinaise. Plus a custard tart.

bumbleymummy · 16/02/2015 19:05

Thanks Suburban!

I will admit to a sneaky stop in M&S and I am now cooking my attempt at the mushroom and halloumi burger (quite a bit of halloumi may have already been consumed). I will let you know how it goes!

No red pepper dip and pitta unfortunately - should have thought of that.

You totally need it - with extra avocado and chili jam. Just trust me...!

Hassled · 16/02/2015 19:14

I was there today and I had ... chicken. An opportunity wasted - I go to Nandos, I eat chicken. Next time it will be the halloumi/mushroom thing - it does sound lovely.

Gunpowder · 16/02/2015 19:17

YANBU. I like it with pitta too. Last time I was there they had run out of mushrooms. Nearly cried.

I have a pitta but with chicken breast in it. I love the sweet potato mash. Can never get it to taste like that at home. And perinaise, mmm!

bumbleymummy · 16/02/2015 19:50

Good to know Euphemia. I love avocado :)

Right...burger made and eaten and it was yummy! It didn't taste the same as Nando's but it definitely hit the spot. I feel deliciously full right now.

I also may have bought a small custard tart to nibble on later while I'm catching up on Homeland. Monday was a good day Grin
