At the smell of fox poo? My dog rolled it in yesterday and dear God, it was disgusting.

Why is it so revolting??

Dogs can be gross can't they?! To get rid of the smell for good, just washing it off with shampoo might not be enough. Use tomato purée and leave it on for 10 mins, then shampoo it off.

Joulea · 16/02/2015 06:54

Ha Diva - I used tomato sauce! And then held him under the outside tap for hours to rinse it off. It worked but I did have to throw his collar away Sad

Tomato puree? That's interesting and how on earth did you first discover that worked on fox poo as a matter of interest Wiener? Smile

monkeymamma · 16/02/2015 07:44

Yabu, unless you can say for absolute sure that you have never let your dog crap anywhere and not picked it up (I've noticed a lot of dog owners - not all of course! - have a sort of selective amnesia about this). I spent Wednesday cleaning dog shit off my lovely new buggy (got all over the bassinet as we keep wheels and seats together in boot of our car) whilst simultaneously wrangling a toddler and a newborn. I hope the owner of the dog that shat on that particular pavement gets fox crap on their shoes, frankly!

Am sure you are a nicer dog owner than him or her, though!

kittentwo · 16/02/2015 09:03

Fox poo is surely the devil's work the foulest smelling substance on earth. Makes me heave. Apparently of you cover the area in ketchup it neurtilises the smell. Personally a labrador cover on fox poo and ketchup seems a step to far. I have been known to rung my dh or literally cry and heave and swear while cleaning it yuk

Joulea · 16/02/2015 09:06

Monkey - I'm not following that....?

But as an aside, I ALWAYS pick up my dogs' poo. Unless it's literally buried in the woods. I can't stand owners who pretend they haven't seen and walk away. It's not nice, no-one likes doing it but it's part of owning a dog. I fully agree with fines for those who leave it to go all over others' shoes/pushchair/children. Just disgusting Angry

Kitten - I have a strong stomach, but honestly the smell of fox poo combined with ketchup really did make me heave! I totally empathise with you!

I don't understand why it's SO evil?!?

kittentwo · 16/02/2015 09:10

or why dogs love it so much revolting creatures .

fluffyraggies · 16/02/2015 09:22

Duck poo. Duck poo and fox poo. Ours used to make a bee line for that too. Often during the same outing :( Joy.

Chuffingelves01 · 16/02/2015 09:43

Pets at home do a fox poo shampoo it's the only thing I found that worked. The vet told me the smell is so bad because of the protein in it. There is no other smell like it

Booboostoo · 16/02/2015 11:05

Fox poo is truly evil, it's the worst poo! Mine all love rolling in it and you know they have done it from miles away!

Hoppinggreen · 16/02/2015 11:08

I can pick up dog poo, cat poo, child poo and various forms of sick but fox poo makes me heave. They seem to like going on it decking under the swing seat so you dont realise for a bit until the smell hits you and then you have to crawl under to get it - love foxes but wish they would wear nappies or something!!

emotionsecho · 16/02/2015 11:15

Chicken poo is pretty evil, our very well behaved dog found a heap of chicken poo and rolled in it - it was disgusting. I never did fathom why a roll in smelly poo was necessary that day!

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 16/02/2015 11:15

Foxes are evil. I used to love them but they have systematically eaten through the trampoline netting (including the zip) in 6 separate places. They also perch on the smallest of ledges and crap on them. They steal the kid's outdoor toys (and crap on them) and dig up the lawn (and crap on it!). They are shitbags!

Stinkle · 16/02/2015 11:23

Fox poo does smell revolting.

Not as revolting as the nicely decomposing seagull that my fuckwit dog rolled in a little while ago.

I had to drive him home, and it stunk my car out for weeks.

I'm convinced that fox poo contains some sort of chemical that makes my dog lose his tiny mind. His face is a picture when he finds some. He knows rolling in it is going to get him hosed down, but he just can't help himself, you can almost see him thinking "oh, fuck it". Unfortunately we seem to live on some sort of fox highway as there is always a nice pile waiting for him in the garden

3littlefrogs · 16/02/2015 11:26

When I lived in US I was advised that tomato juice is the only thing to deal with the smell of skunk. (As in the animal, not the drug). There must be something in it that can get rid of strong smells.

WienerDiva · 22/02/2015 12:51

I'm so sorry I never replied Blush

This thread didn't show up on my "I'm on" thingy.

Someone told me about it years ago and having worked in a vets for many years it's my one piece of advice I give to every new dog owner!

Something to do with enzymes or something like that.

But it definitely works!

Gruntfuttock · 22/02/2015 13:43

I did know that tomato juice is what you need to use to get rid of the smell of skunk, but as I live in the UK I'm sure it's not something I'll ever have to do. If it also gets rid of the smell of fox poo that could well come in useful one day, as there are loads of foxes round here.

ProudAS · 22/02/2015 15:05

I retch and struggle not to throw up if I see human poo (can just about cope with my own if it's fresh). I can't even watch a programme on TV about train loos flushing onto tracks without looking away but would happily listen to soundtrack whilst eating meal with back to screen.

YANBU OP you can't help it.

Iloveadrianmole · 22/02/2015 15:17

I do wonder what it is about poo that dogs love.
My dog rolled in some unidentified poo today - not fox poo though - there are no foxes where I live.

Maybe it's just poo in general - didn't enjoy bathing him afterwards Smile

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 22/02/2015 15:23

My dog licked a gob of fox poo on the pavement as if it were ice cream. The DC and I were nearly sick and I haven't been able to eat Whippy ice cream ever since.

My neighbour told me that letting my dog eat pineapple would stop her eating fox poo. I've not tried it yet as she's stopped eating it and is now only rolling in it, a lovely smear round her neck generally as though it is the finest perfume Angry

Ujjayi · 22/02/2015 15:36

YANBU OP. Tis the vilest stench.

Apparently they roll in poo/decaying animals to mask their own scent for hunting purposes. No amount of telling my viszla that I do all food-related hunting will dissuade her from the activity Confused
