To wonder what's going to happen to Nutella now?

So Mr Ferrero has died :( apparently Nestle have tried to buy it in the past.

AIBU to wonder ever so slightly what the future hold for our, kinder eggs, Tic Tac, Ferrero Rocher and Nutella spread? They've said the man in charge (his DS2) isn't that interested in the buisness

Am sure they'll do a good spread at the funeral Smile

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 15/02/2015 23:39

I want to go to that funeral.

To pay my respects of course, nothing to do with the spread

NoArmaniNoPunani · 15/02/2015 23:40

It'll probably get sold.

DCITennison · 15/02/2015 23:43

Let's hope Kraft the bastards don't get their grubby mitts on it.

WrappedInABlankie · 15/02/2015 23:44

Imagine if he chose to be incased in a giant ferrero rocher instead of a coffin.

WrappedInABlankie · 15/02/2015 23:50

Well it's bio-degradable so people can't complain, give the insects a bit of a treat i suppose lol

I don't think anything will happen to it. A big brand like that has critical mass. It will keep going, under the same family or under another owner. You can still buy Colman's Mustard, Brasso and Fry's for example. Keep buying it and it will always be sold. As an aside, at 89 Mr Ferrero had a good long shelf life.

WrappedInABlankie · 16/02/2015 00:48

It's worth 9 billion isn't it?

It's only because they had reported his DS2 isn't that interested in the business and Nestle had tried to buy it i wonder if he'd sell it. The said he use to fly via helicopter daily before he was ill to test it that's dedication right there. I hope they don't sell i do like nutella it's a god of spread

Ive never tried Nutella. Havent had Ferrerro Rocher for years but my parents sometimes buy them at Christmas.

MuttersDarkly · 16/02/2015 00:59

Il Sole 24 ore has report underlining the father's commitment to his company being motivated by his desire to create security for his employees. That might be something, or nothing, but given the extent to which we don't need any more unemployment over here... it might be that both the family and the government are keen for the company to stay in family hands. Even if the remaining son doesn't want to run it any longer. Becuase I think if an American company buys it there is quite a good chance that they could slowly but surely move operations out of the country.

Don't forget, his mum is still alive. And if mamma doesn't want her husband's wishes set aside, it would be a brave child that risked her wrath. The recently deceased was at least the second generation in the family business, so there may be extended family members who have been groomed to step into the top spot should the time come.

No guarantees obviously. But if there was a high risk of a sell off as a direct result from his death I'd expect ilsole, of all sources becuase it's a bit like the FT I suppose, to at least mention it.

Cadbury's had critical mass before Kraft took it over.

It still trades under its old name, but doesn't really seem the same any more.

HelenaDove · 16/02/2015 01:05

Topsey the Milk Tray i tried last night was disgusting.

Romann · 16/02/2015 01:05

The company was already being run by his son Giovanni. Michele had left the CEO position years ago. Nutella is safe!

The eldest brother had a heart attack and died hence why he's running it now?

I have to admit i can't taste the difference in my creme egg but i can in my poor easter egg!

as long as they leave it alone i'll buy it

I'm going to panic buy nutella & ferreros....

Arsenic · 16/02/2015 02:08

Drive to Italy and buy one of those child sized jars (as in the size of a small child). Or six. It's the only proportionate response.

MuttersDarkly · 16/02/2015 20:02

get your panic buying Nutella, tic tacs and kinder eggs here !

Grin

Poor Lame Italian Postal Donkey would have a hissy fit of mule-like proportions if I started ebaying massive jars of brown gloop.

My neighbour always has one to hand. It's bigger than my head.
