Charity collectors knocking at night

I've just (5 minutes ago) had them at the door. They were from save the children and asked if I had heard of their campaign. I politely told them it wasn't a good time, I'm in my pjs, it's pretty late and the dogs were barking so dc were likely to wake up.
One said 'you haven't got 2 minutes to possibly save a child's life?' I said again, not a good time. He gave me a sarcastic 'fine' and walked away.
Aibu to be pissed off at this? Or are they just doing their job?

They do get very pissy. I don't get people trying to sell me double glazing at 8pm, don't know why these come so late.

ooh blondiebonce wonder if it was the same pair????

I don't answer my door after DD goes to bed 6:30 ish.

I had a solar panel salesman knock just as I was about to take her upstairs a few nights ago. Got huffy with me when I told him 3 times that I wasn't interested.

I won't answer the door to chuggers or JW. I also get the ones who say they are just out of prison and need to sell (overpriced) household stuff to make a living. If they knock, I just say I don't have any money in the house.

I find it all a bit intimidating tbh!

DextersMistress · 13/02/2015 10:00

It can katie I can get out of the solar panels/double glazing/new driveway ones because my house is rented but the others are so persistent. Especially if you're alone with dc as I mostly am.

If I can be bothered to asnwer the door to these commission seeking idiots I ask them if they have an appointment? Or just simply say....go.away.

DextersMistress · 13/02/2015 11:26

Grin I don't think I have the balls to say that!

I opened the door with a crying DD who was in a grump about something and the chugger said 'I can see this isn't a good time (oh good, I thought, at least this one is understanding).....when can I come back?'

We live in a no cold calling zone though, so I point out the sign on the lamppost a stone's throw from our house and send them on their merry way.

I had someone knock when i opened the door i had 2 kids trying to escape while holding the third.

I only opened the door cause i was expecting someone and i couldnt get rid of them.In the end i closed the door in their face.

Usually i just tell them im not buying or interested in anything they have to offer and close the door.

knittingirl · 13/02/2015 11:42

yanbu. I used to try and explain/be polite, now I just say "sorry we don't give money at the door" and close the door.

CocktailQueen · 13/02/2015 11:44

Bet they're being paid for it - lots of charities pay companies to promote one the charity's projects or funding drives. Terrible to call round in the evening though and even worse to be rude!!! I'd tweet Save the Children and tell them just why you won't donate to them ever again!

Lanaandmaria2014 · 13/02/2015 12:05

I say 'Oh is that a petition for bringing back the death penalty in the UK?, it's not, Ok, goodbye'.

EmmaJacksonHarley · 13/02/2015 12:22

I'm in the process of moving and a few days ago took the 'No cold callers' sign off my door, knocking started pretty much immediately, door knocks and I shouted through the door 'Who is there please?' they tell me and I say sorry, am already supporting other charities lies

The correct response to that IMO would have been 'Oh okay then bye' but no he started to say 'but I would really like to talk to you ..' and this is where I got shamefully bitchy and shouted through the door 'AND I SAID I AM NOT INTERESTED BYEEEE!' Heard grumbling and I wondered off, realised about 5 minutes later, I could still hear loud talking outside the door (am in a block of flats) looked through my spyhole and they were all congregated outside my door chatting to each other. Bear in mind this was about 7pm kids were in bed. I shouted at them again Blush 'CAN YOU MOVE AWAY FROM MY DOOR PLEASE?' More grumbling from them but they moved!

I know I was probably being unreasonable to shout but it pisses me off when people don't take no for an answer in the first place. So yeah Grin

I threw a Dalmatian at the cancer research chuggers at my door last year. Well she threw herself. I was upstairs with dc it was heading towards bath time and they kept knocking and knocking, opened the window to tell them off and dog jumped out Shock she was thankfully fine and once I'd got down and established that I tore a strip off them for continually knocking. But we knew you were in. Yes but I was ignoring you I don't have to answer a knock at my door. I was Angry and no the for did not learn her lesson she thankfully hasn't made it out a window since but has tried.

Some collectors knocked on my doorlast night (RSPCA vests on). Told them I don't give to charities at my door.

I also told them to be very careful not to fall over the piles of bricks and the metal spikes festooning my path as they left (garden being landscaped).

They looked suitably perturbed. Grin

We had them here the other week mid bedtime stuff - I told them I wasn't interested and started closing the door, and one of them said something about children dying without my help, and how did that make me feel? I was very pissed off, so snarled that if they didn't fuck off and leave me alone an adult would be dying on my doorstep, and that would make me feel good. They left very quickly Grin
Might try it again next time!
