Have just seen this article shared on FB - PHD Student makes yoghurt with her vagina Confused

www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/vagina-yogurt-woman-uses-bacteria-5146255

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 12/02/2015 17:16

You do know where the bacteria in things like active and yakult came from don't you??...

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/02/2015 17:16

actimel

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 17:17

Where does the bacteria in shop bought yoghurt come from?

I remember making yoghurt in science class once. We needed yoghurt to make yoghurt....

Admittedly you only needed a spoonful or so of the yoghurt to make more yoghurt but it seemed somewhat odd.

We made it in a more traditional manner than the story in the OP.

SuperFlyHigh · 12/02/2015 17:17

Giles but don't they grow that in a lab and it's not like from the lab assistants actual own bacteria is it? or is it?!

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 17:18

Just read the first review for the "natural harvest" book

as hard as I try, a cannot seem to find a Waitrose that will stock this ingredient. Fortunately we have a Pony called Brian, who delivers a fresh pint on demand.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/02/2015 17:19

It did come from a healthy digestive tract.

not sure about labs. maybe hope so

SuperFlyHigh · 12/02/2015 17:20

I never liked Yakult or Actimel anyway. Now I know why!

Andrewofgg · 12/02/2015 17:28

I wonder if she lets her BF/OH lick the bowl after she's finished cooking . . . Andrew, behave!

SukieTuesday · 12/02/2015 17:28

It can't be real lady yoghurt because it's not fat free yet decadent.

Lemondrizzletwunt · 12/02/2015 17:29

Semen is inexpensive to produce and is commonly available in many, if not most, homes and restaurants.

Really? Restaurants?!?!?! Shock

Arf at the reviews though Grin

DO NOT buy this recipe book whatever you do! I made the unfortunate MISTAKE of buying it to make Christmas dinner a little more interesting for the family this year. I earnestly followed the recipes and was very excited to offer the star recipe `Spunkulicious Pie' to the in-laws as a special treat. All of the men in my immediate family contributed to it. Even Granddad! We didn't even know he had it in him. The shared solidarity of a collective experience made it seem even more special. It had that delicate smell of ball sack aroma when it came out of the oven just like the book said BUT! A few hours later everybody became violently ill. The book says you can reheat the pie but now I read somewhere else that this is disastrous because the heat mutates the semen. We all spent Christmas day at the NHS walk in centre and were diagnosed with the rare illness known as CONSPUNCTIVITIS. It ruined our whole Christmas and I want my money back!!!! I gave it 2 stars because it smelt nice and the men felt happy at first.

Cornettoninja · 12/02/2015 17:32

theoretically if you were prone to a bit of thrush you could brew up a beer.

Andrewofgg · 12/02/2015 17:32

Semen is inexpensive to produce

If you are paying anything at all you are being cheated.

VixxFace · 12/02/2015 17:47

The bacteria in actimel is from poo

laughingmyarseoff · 12/02/2015 19:04

Definitely wouldn't be keen and really, to be a proper experiment, she would have taken swabs and cultured on a plate, then selected the appropriate and safe bacteria. She's lucky she didn't get sick.

She also would have had to get others to take part...

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/02/2015 19:43

There are several semen cookbooks on the market so I don't know why people are so grossed out by what was a one-off scientific experiment? It's not like she was trying to sell a batch to Waitrose...

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/02/2015 19:50

I was reading an article/blogpost by a gynaecologist in response to Gwyneth Paltrow promoting steam douches (in short: a really bad idea). She said in her blogpost how specialised and sensitive the vaginal lactobacillus is and is accordingly very hard to culture/grow in the lab. If this PhD student has managed to make fanjo yoghurt, perhaps we should be applauding her microbiology skillzzzz.

Surely if one can make yoghurt out of ones own vaginal discharge then it is likely an infection of some kind is at play?

I believe the allies found out exactly what could be made out of human body parts after liberating the concentration camps. Books, gloves, lamp shades, for example.

An artist made a bust of his head with his own blood.

DustBunnyFarmer · 12/02/2015 22:13

There's also that Gunther von Haagens guy who injects polymers into bodies to plasticise/preserve them & displays them fully or partially dissected.
