AIBU to tell Facebook friend that his planned tattoo has a dirty double meaning?

A facebook friend posted a picture of a tattoo he's planning to get. It's the words self love across his knuckles. I'm sure he means it as an affirmation but it reminds me of masturbation, especially with that placement. I just coyly commented asking him if he'd considered the double meaning. Everyone else has left positive comments so I wondered if I was being weird or negative but if I was going to put a permanent mark on my body that had an iffy double meaning I would want to know. AIBU?

You're right, I told him and he did know. Phew. I didn't know him well enough to be sure that was the case. It's not my style but it's up to him.

Well, now you know one more thing about him.

That he's the type of person who thinks it's funny to tattoo masturbation references onto his hands.

C lassy.

I think it's a bit wanky to tell people on facebook about tattoos you plan to get before you've actually got them. Very attention seeking.

grocklebox · 09/02/2015 18:56

He's getting tattoed across his knuckles. He's already a bit of a wanker, he might as well spell it out.

Nomama · 09/02/2015 18:56

So now you can be sure he is a complete w twat Smile

Tyzer the ^right hand reference is form that song I linked to...

My mother said
that I never should
never play with the naughty rude girls in the wood
Their giggling talk I could never understood
And that's why I fell in love with my right hand

Well posting anything on Facebook could be defined as attention seeking really. It is a place where people post about their interests, including tattoos. I've got some great artist recommendations by discussing tattoo ideas online and friends have also helped me decide between black and white and colour. And it could save someone in a similar situation from making a mistake if someone spotted an issue they were unaware of. Sometimes you just need a second perspective.

YANBU to think this is an awful wanky tattoo
YABU to put it on his wall

Send a private message if you must or just leave him to his wankdom

Mrsstarlord · 09/02/2015 19:17

Perhaps he knows and thinks it's funny? Confused

Fabulassie · 09/02/2015 20:00

I wouldn't say a word. I'd let him get on with scribbling on himself. It's not like there are actually any good tattoos. They're all vain and silly, anyway. The higher the sentiment, the stupider they are. He's following his destiny, here.

Don't stand in his way.

Mrsstarlord · 09/02/2015 20:03

Fabulassie - what does your post mean? Clearly it's insulting because you don't like tattoos but it sounds like you are suggesting that those with the highest sentimental meaning are the most stupid. In which case - nice attitude.

Fabulassie · 09/02/2015 20:07

I think tattoos are fantastic for Maori warriors, Hell's Angels and Henry Rollins. I say that with zero snark: they all have marvellous tattoos and I admire them.

Everybody else? Just doodling on themselves. The harder they try to make them something more than mindless doodles, the stupider they look.

If it's insulting, well... I'm not trying to be complimentary.

EverySingleTime · 09/02/2015 20:12

I hope it's a joke!

My mechanic has recently had his knuckles tattooed. I was straining to read what they said while he wrote up my receipt. They said Live Fast. I thought Daft Twat would have been better. Grin

christ am really thick, whats the word? Blush

amy83firsttimer · 09/02/2015 20:16

I have seen someone with this exact tattoo and placement, to be honest he looked like a kinky bugger so I thought it was deliberate. Maybe your fb friend is also a kinky bugger and fully aware of what it means?

ssd · 09/02/2015 20:17

oh sorry just reread the words are self love, right?

how....strange..

Henbur1702 · 09/02/2015 20:40

You've done your bit, let him get on with it! You can always lend him a shoulder to cry on point him towards groupon when they are doing the laser removal specials, if he regrets labelling himself a wanker!
