To return the class bear with a note saying thanks, but no thanks

DS has the Reception class Bear to entertain this weekend. The bear has two books full of his previous adventures and TBH he has a busy life.

I'm ashamed to say that he has now spent the entire weekend in his suitcase Blush.

DS gets a lot of homework for a reception child IMO - spellings, drawing and reading - and I can't be bothered to make him come up with an adventure for the Bear as well.

So I was thinking that the Bear seems to need a rest anyway and perhaps it would be just fine to send him back having had a good long snooze?

Yabu although I feel your pain Smile

MrsPeterQuill · 08/02/2015 16:38

I hate the bear. Our class bear diary seems to be full of weekend trips to the Grand Canyon and Disney land etc. I get the urge them to take the kids out on a helicopter trip to Monaco or some such but I wait til it passes.

YANBU, I loathe the bloody thing.

valsoldknickers · 08/02/2015 16:39

I have always wanted to photograph ours in compromising situations (eg surrounded by scantily clad Barbies, smoking a joint with a bottle of vodka etc) and obviously not show the kids, purely for my own amusement. I need to get out more Grin

WhispersOfWickedness · 08/02/2015 16:41

DS's class has loads of different toys, the kids earn stickers throughout the day and whoever has the most that day brings one of the toys home with a book. DS brought Brian the Bee home once. He couldn't think of anything to do with Brian, so took it back the next day with the entry 'Brian sat on my head' complete with picture Grin

BreeVDKamp · 08/02/2015 16:41

awholelot The bear gets to go home with the best behaved/highest achieving/most deserving etc kid at the weekend. Mainly as a reward/recognition thing I think. Didn't you have class bears yourself when you were a kid?? Ours was a hedgehog I think.

Only1scoop · 08/02/2015 16:42

Do it val Grin...return the wretched bear holding a miniature Smirnoff with Barbi's pants stuffed in his pocket....

Wailywailywaily · 08/02/2015 16:44

DH hassuggested photo shop.
this is the second time DS has had Bear and we did make a big effort last time. This time I was very gushy about how proud DS must be to have Bear but he has shown zero interest or enthusiasm, now his apathy is rubbing off on me Blush.

I am so glad there was no bear when mine were little. It would not have survived. I dropped the mouse cage on the way home one half term. Cage broke, mouse escaped. Then the class hamster died in our care.

ChippingInGluggingOn · 08/02/2015 16:45

I love having the class bear Grin. He just tags along. Last time he came to Costco & had his photo taken in the trolley holding a massive jar of honey. Time before we washed his entire wardrobe and made him a new Travel Bag with his name on. It's hardly a weekend in Courcheval when they come to stay, but they the kids seem to enjoy it.

One year we 'hosted' for the entire summer holidays. He had his own little summer diary.

You don't have to be mad to live here. But it helps.Grin

babster · 08/02/2015 16:46

Our nursery bear was very smelly, as it had spent the previous week in someone's car boot. Bear had a swim in the washing machine and relaxed on the radiator.

SurlyCue · 08/02/2015 16:50

There are still a couple pf hours left of the weekend. Bear could easily help make the dinner, and do a jigsaw before having a bubble bath and early night.

youbethemummylion · 08/02/2015 16:51

When bear comes to our house he generally helps make tea, watches TV, puts his PJ's on then goes to bed. He is a very tired little bear he cant be in the go the whole time.

WyrdByrd · 08/02/2015 16:53

Grin @ ChippingIn - we do that kind of thing with my DD's actual bear - it's quite addictive once you get started.

OP - take a pick of bear wrapped in a towel with a couple of cucumber slices on his eyes 'Relaxing weekend at the Waily's' - job done.

BarbarianMum · 08/02/2015 16:56

In all seriousness, you don't need to do the whole class bear thing unless your ds wants to (unfortunately mine always did).

When 'Rosie' came to visit us I figured she should relax more about the whole diary thing. Kids had a great weekend w her, we stuck 2 photos in the book and ds wrote about a sentence and a half. Several mums thanked me privately later for lowering the expected standard (previously a 4 page photospread with in depth coverage written by a parent).

MrsPinotGrigio · 08/02/2015 16:56

When the class bear stayed with us I gave him a bath (in the washing machine - checked the label 1st) cos ds's own teddy needed a bath & DS thought he might feel left out. The teacher was a bit Hmm when I told her Grin

expatinscotland · 08/02/2015 16:56

I sent it back with nothing. We don't have a printer, and nowhere around here prints out photos from cards.

Wherediparkmybroom · 08/02/2015 16:59

Put a gin in one paw and a fag in the other he's chill axing I hate toes bloody bears!!!

Bluepants · 08/02/2015 17:00

Put the bear next to one of your dc bears and say "bear made a new friend" then out bear at dinner table and say "bear liked dinner". Job done!

I don't like the idea of class bear, we had the bugger home for a week when my mum just got diagnosed with cancer and we kept having to go to the hospital to see wtf was going to happen. But I still took a couple of photos so dd could participate. Eg bear smelled some flowers, bear made a friend. Even though I don't like the class bear stuff, I like even less the idea of not bothering with something the school asked you to do.

loveandsmiles · 08/02/2015 17:02

Haha, YABU - you will have to do something, but I feel your painGrin

With my first 2 DCs we used to do amazing things with the bear - wanted everyone to think we had these amazing, fun filled weekends Blush. Now with DCs 3&4 the novelty has definitely worn off and we just takes pics of our usually boring, humdrum weekend!

x2boys · 08/02/2015 17:11

We got the sodding bear for Xmas a couple of years ago ds neglected to tell me we left him in the car and the car had to go into the garage for some work over Xmas I only found him a couple of days before Xmas ended very cold and missing a shoe!

twinkletoedelephant · 08/02/2015 17:15

we sent in bear after dark photos in for the teachers..... they were up in the staff room for the year :)

that bear was a very naughty bear indeed :)

specialsubject · 08/02/2015 17:20

twinkle can you post them here or will it get you banned? Grin

Wailywailywaily · 08/02/2015 17:26

Expat the lack of printer is part of my motivation though I could use one of the online photo printing companies and still have bear back by Wednesday, if I really, really wanted to Hmm

When ds2 last had bear we took some pictures, got them developed at the local Boots and he wrote a few words. He hates writing and I hate the fucking bear so it seemed a fair compromiseGrin

I am so glad my dses are older now, this sort of shit is a nightmare for parents.
