To send my dd to her prom by bus?

Event is just down the road. Bus stop just up the road. She'll be able to offer all her friends a ride, and the colour will match her dress Smile

How was everyone supposed to know you were "joking"?? Confused

dingit · 08/02/2015 15:42

Yes ghost. We've just received the letter from school with the details. I've been pulling her leg about catching the bus. She's planning to wear high heels, and is likely to break her neck walking to the bus stop!

Why not go on the bus?

dingit · 08/02/2015 15:44

The Smile at the end of my post, and mentioning that the colour matched her dress?

Ok I'm off then, clearly my sense of humour is awful, and the only reason people post on here is to be nasty Hmm

What is this 'prom' nonsense?

PrettyFeet · 08/02/2015 15:48

Not sure why it was a "joke" though OP to be fair. What's wrong in sending a child to a prom on a bus?

Oh dear, are you a "limo" one?

Grin
dingit · 08/02/2015 15:49

No pretty, helicopter I expect. Smile

I know we all want the best for our kids and if I had the money I would have probably actually sent him in a helicopter (how cool would that have been)

Its' just that it came across as either you not being able to afford much or laughing at people that couldn't.

Ubik1 · 08/02/2015 15:58

Limos are tacky

dingit · 08/02/2015 15:59

Yes I do see. No sorry that's not my style at all. ( to laugh at anyone I mean). And dd is not a diva who will demand a limo. she would probably be a bit put out by the bus as I have a car sitting outside, but if there was no other option, that's what she would do.
Actually, she said she didn't want a new dress, she would wear the one she had last summer for an event, bless her. but she now has a new dress we bought on line, that is gorgeous, and cost £26.

OP posts:
Behooven · 08/02/2015 15:59

Young uns like the limos and the fuss, so if it's something you can afford, why not?

PrettyFeet · 08/02/2015 16:00

Oh and if it's any consolation OP. You're very brave to start a thread here. I'm however not that brave would rather poke sharp sticks in my eyes because by the end of the thread that's a preference from where I'm sitting Grin

Bet she's going to look gorgeous in red Flowers

dingit · 08/02/2015 16:18

Beehooven, I've already told her she could do the limo thing if it's not too expensive.
Yes Pretty, her dress is red lace, it's a bit Taylor Swift style, dds hair is a very similar to hers too. We still need to shop for bag and shoes.

I went to my wedding on a bus! Admittedly a hired, old double decker, but still - on a bus. It was awesome, got to travel there with my friends and parents. Buses are great.

PavlovtheCat · 08/02/2015 16:51

floggingmolly I so love your name! Saw them supporting FT and they were great. I hope your name is related to the band, else you won't have a clue what I'm talking about Grin

still don't get the 'joke' about going to a prom by bus.

Minesril · 08/02/2015 16:58

I hired a route master for my wedding, it was awesome. It took my guests from the church to the venue!

dingit · 08/02/2015 17:03

I really am not a bus snob, get on them all the time, especially as I hate tubes. Dh, on the other hand... Dc think it's fantastic with him as he'll always flag a black cab, rather than get on a 'smelly old bus'. You would think he's royalty!

OP posts:
UncleT · 08/02/2015 17:03

Anything to do with a 'prom' is complete bullshit anyway - we don't live in Sweet Valley Fucking High.

Behooven · 08/02/2015 17:13

You're a bundle of joy uncle
Proms are 'over here' now and have been for years, there's nothing wrong with a bunch of young people getting dressed up and having a good time together, Is there?

Sidge · 08/02/2015 17:21

A party to celebrate the end of all your GCSEs and finishing school?

Why bloody not, I say.

My DD has her prom this summer and I can't wait. I'm not going to spend gazillions on dresses and helicopters but I want her to have a lovely evening with all her friends before she leaves school and they all go their separate ways. She'll deserve it after a couple of years of really hard graft.

Floggingmolly · 08/02/2015 17:23

Oh, I get it Pavlov Grin

mrscumberbatch · 08/02/2015 17:23

We took a bus that the school chartered to prom because it was cheap and we could spend all of our money on booze and hipflasks Grin

UncleT · 08/02/2015 17:37

Indeed - so let's call it the end of year party or whatever, not some pointless imported bullshit. Nothing whatsoever against a good party being held, ball, whatever.

cardibach · 08/02/2015 17:42

Excuse hijack (of thread, not bus) Pavlov I saw Flogging Molly supporting Frank Turner too! In Cardiff. Great gig. The poster will know what you are talking about as I've had the same conversation with her!

PavlovtheCat · 08/02/2015 18:05

cardi Grin did you see Beans on Toast too then? he was awful! I would love to have gone to the flogging molly boat trip in the US last year!
