Seriously?!

Surely this is just a good blue for a 5 year old boy, totally gender neutral??

AIBU???!

He's 5. It won't be the colour it was when it came out of the bag for long anyway.

weebarra · 06/02/2015 12:31

DS2 has that jacket. He is 4 and a boy. He loves it and it keeps him warm and dry.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 06/02/2015 12:42

Christ, don't put him in that. His willy will fall off.

Lovecat · 06/02/2015 12:52

DH has a jumper in that colour. Matches his eyes. I must tell him it's a bit feminine so he can go and burn it ceremonially over the bbq while doing a bit of manly howling and chest thumping and then stamp on the ashes in his big man-boots. While pouring beer over it. And other man-things. Just in case.

Eva50 · 06/02/2015 12:53

I think it's fine for a boy but then you should see what mine wear. Ds2 had a stash of leggings from his cousin that caused adult DSD great trauma every time he wore them.

ANewMein2015 · 06/02/2015 12:57

Btw - does anyoen know why "we" have zips / buttons that fasten up different for boys and girls... its such an odd thing!

RoganJosh · 06/02/2015 13:00

I have heard that it's because men used to do their own buttons up, where women had maids.

Soleurmange · 06/02/2015 13:02

Brilliant. You've all cracked me up. I shall be purchasing said 3 in 1 jacket, in aqua, in the colour DS chose, and ill be showing this thread to DH to boot Grin

It's fine! My DS would wear it. And SDT he would have loved your yellow coats too. He wore a bright yellow waterproof for the past two years - yes, he was the only one in the school with a yellow coat; no, he did not care one jot! He adored it and would still wear it if it fitted (and has now chosen a bright lime green one to replace it).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/02/2015 13:13

If I still had the coats here, spiderlight, I would post them off to you - but sadly they are long gone. Though the trauma they caused is still very real!

HereIAm20 · 06/02/2015 14:31

We had the yellow gap one - son is 22! Younger son 13 would never wear it! Even at that age even if he is so young do you really want a battle every time you try to get him to wear it especially if there are alternates. I am a great believer in pick your battles.

WitchWay · 06/02/2015 14:35

My DH has a ski jacket that colour which I don't like it looks girly

His old one was a much richer blue & suited him much better

They are different colours

HazleNutt · 06/02/2015 16:46

am I looking at some other jacket than your DH? The one on your link is blue. If that's not suitable for a boy, what's left - only camouflage?

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 06/02/2015 17:30

The aqua one is fine, but I'd prefer the Cobalt Blue for a boy.

The aqua is quite pastel in color and will be hard to keep clean.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 06/02/2015 17:40

Tell your DH to sort himself out!

I haven't even looked but really?

I had a friend when DS1 was a baby and apparently her DH wouldn't let her buy bright green crocs as they were 'too girly' and they had to be 'army green' Hmm

Flomple · 06/02/2015 17:44

No it's fine.

I wouldn't force a younger brother to wear his sister's old one that colour. But if DS is happy, I'd be happy.

hiccupgirl · 06/02/2015 17:46

I wanted one that colour for my 5 yr old - spotted a lovely one in the Next sale. Unfortuantly DS spotted a similar denim/navy one and that was it as he refused to try the other one on.

Lesson learnt, buy the colour you know your child will wear regardless of whether you prefer a different one.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 06/02/2015 17:50

My 8 year old ds has had a look - I asked him which we thought was marketed to boys and which to girls and he said all the blue ones were probably for boys, including the Aqua. Then he begged me to buy the red one for him. Am tempted, actually as he loves red and has been in muddy green/ brown Boden sale coats for a few years now.

Oh and girlwhowearsglasses ds had the bright green crocs and he got lots of approving comments from elderly Greek ladies on holiday!

Re. the buttons on opposite sides for men and women.

I heard that it hails back to the 'olden days' (official term Grin ) when men would have their swords at their left hip ready to draw with their right hand. If their coat (probably not a 3 in 1 performance jacket) was done up the ladies' way then their sword would cut it open when drawn, so the buttons are the other way for blokey types.

You're welcome. Grin
