Rude or not?

Just started doing some voluntary work. There's a training session on, close to DD's school so very handy for me to drop her and walk to the venue. One of the other volunteers said to me today "how are you getting there? Are you driving?"

I said, I'll be driving in from XYZ (not where I live) and dropping DD off at school (DD attends a pre-school activity on the day the training happens to be held, so I'll literally have a 5 minute window to drop her at school and then walk 5 minutes down the road to arrive at the start time for the training).

She pulls a face and then brightens and says "We'll go back together."

I look at her like 'wha-?' and she repeats "we'll go back together."

I say "You mean you want a lift back?" (from a 5 word exchange last week I know she lives about 6 roads from me).

She nods and walks off.

Now, I have no real objection to giving this woman a lift (beyond having to clean the car out for company ), as it's on my way home anyway, but is this not a fucking rude way of asking for one? It's not even asking, is it, it's just demanding?

Hmm

Cheeky cow.

Tell her your plans have changed.

BallsforEarrings · 05/02/2015 22:19

YANBU - to me, that is rude!

AlpacaPicnic · 05/02/2015 22:21

Well, it's not really a rude way of asking as she didn't ask!
But it is rude. And presumptious.
I would just tell her that you will not be going home straight away so will not be able to drive her home - but then I'm a bitch.

Very rude and presumptuous of her.

Tell her you are collecting several other children too as a favour to their parents so you have no room for anyone else.

CharleyFarleyy · 05/02/2015 22:44

As Miranda would say, rude!

Tobyjugg · 05/02/2015 22:49

Tell her the car's of the road but you`ll happily split a cab. OR borrow a neighbour's big hairy dog (Irish wolfhound would be best - a wet one if possible) to share the back seat with her.

I've just been sent the details of the training and she's not even down to do it in that session!

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this, if she turns up and expects a lift and I'm not doing anything else (I think I may invent a supermarket trip although I'm now afraid she'll tell me she'll come with me!) then I suppose she can have one, but you know when you're so gobsmacked by someone's cheek that you wonder if you've even heard them right and you can't gather yourself up in time to say 'no, actually' ? Confused
