To think Myleene Klass will win no friends with this...

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/11391753/Myleene-Klass-Ill-be-collecting-unicorn-money-for-my-daughters-birthday.html

She has tweeted two emails from mothers at her daughter's school asking for cash donations for their children's birthday parties. She's changed their names but clearly they are still recognisable to anyone with children in that class and presumably the whole school will know about it nowthat it's been published in the papers and online.

I agree the emails are completely crass and I would privately think the same but they haven't committed any crime or sent her an expletive-filled rant about something. I opened it expecting to see a request for an actual kindle when they are just suggesting £10. Crass, vulgar, materialistic etc etc, yes, but I think her response (shaming them publicly) is really nasty and may not win her or her DD any friends at the school gate.

Eh, I thought the letter was a poor attempt at wry humour. She lost her ground with this gem:

"And as my granny would've said, if you can't tweet anything nice, don't tweet anything at all.”

teawamutu · 09/02/2015 19:46

I guess our readings differ, then. Fair enough.

I still think the HT has a right to say something in public when someone's basically dragged her school's name through the media.

Particularly when that someone's prepared to trade her daughter's privacy, security and social life for column inches. It's pretty contemptible.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 09/02/2015 19:56

I think quietly asking MK to leave would have sent this message more effectively. But I gather the HT likes having celebrity customers (she's human, I'm not suggesting this is wrong, exactly) and she enjoyed her role as a HT "forced" to comment on a tabloid story.

My two kids go to a London day school; the HT is formidable. I find it hard to imagine that she would deign to comment on a Daily Mail article.

teawamutu · 09/02/2015 20:19

Agree with you there.

Although maybe she's a bit concerned about ending up in the next fake MK drama so making sure she says her piece I public?

ForalltheSaints · 09/02/2015 20:29

I am concerned at Myleene Klass wishing to buy a unicorn for her child. I think we should all support the Monster Raving Loony Party policy that unicorns be a protected species as a result.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 10/02/2015 10:08

I thought it was funny that someone apparently asked her why in the playground and Mylene apparently replied that if they had a problem with it to talk to her in private

private like, erm, twitter, yeah?

I will be very public when I have a problem with someone at the school, but if you have a problem with that, then do me the courtesy of speaking with me privately?

I bet she doesn't even see why that's so funny.

Haggismcbaggis · 11/02/2015 08:35

Saw MK as I drove past this am. Wearing sunglasses at 8.15am on a grey and overcast February morning. Quite how she could see at all is anyone's guess.

GokTwo · 11/02/2015 08:38

I thought that too how can!!

Haggismcbaggis · 11/02/2015 08:47

Did you see her this am too Gok?

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 11/02/2015 08:59

She's in North London, correct? Surely this is not NLCS!!?

GokTwo · 11/02/2015 09:07

No I'm in Norfolk Haggis, I was agreeing with howcan about the irony of MK asking mum's to approach her in private.

springalong · 11/02/2015 09:11

I was shocked at the behaviour so am glad she "exposed" it. I don't really care why she did.

Haggismcbaggis · 11/02/2015 09:44

Grin Gok.

No - it's not NLCS.

Southeastdweller · 11/02/2015 20:55

MK tweeted today that her lingerie sales are up 200% Hmm

teawamutu · 11/02/2015 21:24

That might mean 'sold 3 pairs instead of one'. We can hope.

I don't know what annoys me more - her arse-witted attempts to gain publicity through obviously staged rubbish, or the fact that IT WORKS. Grarrgh.

Actually, it's definitely the latter that annoys me more.

teawamutu · 11/02/2015 21:48

Also, this thread would suggest 'Myleene says' isn't nec gospel...

Bumbiscuits · 11/02/2015 22:03

I got my first ever post deletion for saying MK was a cunt

BigRedBall · 11/02/2015 23:40

Well it was rightly deleted. You can't call the whole of Milton Keynes a cunt. That's just rude. Wink

Holliegolightlyscat · 12/02/2015 11:30

Sorry this thread may be ending now wish I'd seen it before - my mum mentioned it to me yesterday (she's a fan of MK, personally I can't stand her)
I'd be furious if I were those mums at school, how dare she make it so public like that - what an abuse of her position in the media (I.e. Rent-a-gob)
From another perspective my daughter was recently invited to a party and the parent suggested the same thing. Personally I was relieved - it saved me having to go out and struggle with what to buy for a boy for £10, which let's face it is a pretty standard amount these days. We all know what it's like when your child is opening 20 presents of varying degrees of tat, most of which will end up in the bin. Why not get the child to save up and buy something they really want? Contrary to the opinion it's wanky and materialistic I think it's teaching your child the value of money - if you really want that xbox or whatever you'll have to pool your birthday money and sacrifice a lot of smaller presents for it. Genius!
And why on earth would you deliberately piss off a load of your daughters school friends mums by acting this way? How Selfish on her part.

thegiantgirl · 12/02/2015 11:38

My dd was at school with MKs daughter, not this school but the last one and I can tell you MK had no interest in friendships with the other mums and her dd didn't go to a single birthday she was invited to. Poor kid

Holliegolightlyscat · 12/02/2015 11:45

She probably wouldnt want to rough it with non-celeb mothers(grin)

Suzannewithaplan · 12/02/2015 11:45

?
I imagine Mylene Krass see's herself as far superior to other mums..Id be surprised if she was interested in their friendship ?

Holliegolightlyscat · 12/02/2015 11:46

Haha I meant to do the smiley emoticon, how do u do it I can't work it out! I'm a complete novice at this

DreamingOfAHotDrink · 12/02/2015 11:47

MK has a condition that is linked to ASD, and has recently been through a divorce. Maybe she was a bit delicate when her DD was at the previous school.

Holliegolightlyscat · 12/02/2015 12:02

Oh...she has a condition...that explains it...
There is no excuse for what she did. If she want to talk about her divorce, clothes line whatever, fine. But to bring normal mums at school into the media with her petty gripe is inexcusable. Everyone will know who those mums are and it must be pretty nasty to be the subject of newspaper fodder, never mind in the playground. Miss Klass chooses to be in the public eye - I doubt those other parents ever wanted to be. They've probably got journos sniffing around now trying to find out who they are. Gross.
