Mil came out with this gem at the weekend. Dh is 5ft9 fgs. Her husband was similar. My dad was over 6ft. Ok I am only 5ft1 1/2. All our dc are actually short understandably. They also have red har due to Uncle Albert etc. Well actually it is not really red and if it was it would probably more down to my celtic origins.
Aibu to be amused by this.

My favourite from MIL was 'he has his daddy's eyes, except blue and squinty'. You can guess what my eyes are...

DD4 has hardly any hair still at 12 months. She had more when she was born! At this time MIL told me all about how she was just like her dad - lots of hair. A thick blond mop by 6 months in fact. ... Now DD$ is just like her dad - who had no hair either till he was 2 Confused

The big/small baby thing too is very Confused She used to tell me DH was a great big baby and a big strong toddler. Now, with DD4 being little for her age and an early walker, she is just her dad - he was also an early walker as he was so small and light!

huh ?? Grin

I get a lot of this too, but my son is a clone of his father, so it's understandable really!

fluffyraggies · 04/02/2015 20:38

$ ?? DD4

Oh and the height thing too, while i'm here again, yes. My dear dad was 6' 4. But DD is going to be tall like her dad. DH is the tallest on his side of the family, to be fair, but he's not as tall as some of the folk on my side. Sadly because they are all passed on they get forgotten by the ILS:(

CatsClaus · 04/02/2015 20:42

mine are all tall like MY family, MIL has never commented.

...she'd have a job considering dh is 5ft10 and the tallest in his family, I am the family midget (apart from a dainty and now elderly aunt) at 5ft8

it is hysterical when they arrive and get hugs from the boys who are all almost a foot and a half taller than both ILs

mother-in-law classic. My daughter can dancer and sing averagely well for somebody who's had so many lessons.

But my xmil used to yell (literally) "she gets that from meeeeeeeeeeeee".

She also used to swear blind she looked juuuuuuust like dd when she was a girl. More so than I did myself apparently.

I tolerated it all with a private eye-roll until she took credit for passing on the genes for maths. I couldn't have that! I said "oh did you get an A in A level maths too??"

MessyHair9 · 04/02/2015 20:51

annunziata my cousin has a son who was adopted and honestly they do have the same neat little features and green eyes and the same colour hair. I don't know if that is just a coincidence or if they try and match up a bit.

CundtBake · 04/02/2015 20:58

My DS looks like me. Strangers stop us in the street to say how much he looks like me, people at Playgroups know immediately that he is mine even if I'm nowhere near him.

His dads family still insist he looks like daddy/granddad/great uncle Fred.

I have to laugh or I might explode

katienana · 04/02/2015 21:04

Elderly relative at Christmas "he has his dads eyes but mum's colouring"
SIL response "he looks exactly like my dad." turns to me "but you think he looks like you don't you"
ummm well I don't know where you would get that idea from I am only his mother...
