To wonder what's wrong ?

I have a doctors appointment on Friday, but I just wondered whether anyone has had any of these symptoms post partum.

I have birth 15 days ago. I lost a lot of blood during the delivery. It soaked through the bed pads, mattress etc and nobody noticed until the floor underneath the bed was covered!
Apparently it wasn't coming from me though Hmm so nothing was ever said again.

My heart rate dropped to 31 but again apparently it's fine?

Anyway since coming home I've been experiencing;

Headache behind my eyes
Pretty bad palpitations. That last all day.
Nausea when I eat.
Loss of appetite.
Cannot taste my food!

Any ideas ?

I lost a lot of blood when I gave birth but nothing was done about it at the time. I was in hospital for several days after the birth because I kept passin out and was utterly exhausted. I can't remember whether I was hungry or not - but probably not much because if DH wasn't around at meal times I went without as I couldn't stand up long enough to go and find food. Eventually they checked my haemoglobin levels and I was found to be very anaemic - so much so that I needed 2 units of blood transfused. I felt amazing after that Grin Make sure your GP gets blood tests done to check.
As a matter of interest how did the hospital explain all the blood if it wasn't yours?
Hope you feel better soon.

Most of your symptoms could be due to anaemia (and low minerals etc).

It takes at least a couple of weeks for supplements to get your levels steady.

But get checked out, thoroughly.

psyandsoc · 04/02/2015 12:05

anaemia or low potassium .

TheHermitCrab · 04/02/2015 12:36

I had a horrible birth, lost a lot of blood like you, tears I didn't even know you could get, a daft amount of time in theater after a natural birth!

I had what you describe, in fact, 3 weeks postpartum I still have it now, and I'm still bleeding heavily. and when you have a screaming newborn and no sleep it's hard to pinpoint whether you are just knackered or something else.

First thing they did was check my iron levels, so it may be what other suggested.

On paper I'm apparently fine. So they've just told me to rest. (With a newborn?..ok! lol)

I still feel like shit but I guess it won't be a quick recovery. (Realised that when they booked my follow up appointment for April!)

Good luck with the doctors, I'm sure they can fix you, the worst part is over with! xx

Thanks everyone.
I've bought some vitamins for the mean time, with iron.

No explanation was given seeline. My partners concerns were brushed off and I was packed off to a ward!

I couldn't stand, couldn't hold baby and could barely lift my head. (Only to vomit)

Sorry you're feeling crap too Hermit!
I was too putting it down to having a newborn!

Did you have an epidural? Is it possible you are taking time (in addition to the blood loss) to recover from anaesthesia? Hope your GP can give you some answers.

MrsTShelby · 04/02/2015 14:42

I felt similar after losing a lot of blood. In fact I nearly passed out having a shower. I had low iron.

Try Spa tone and there is some other vile liquid but can't remember what it's called.

Steak or mince based dinners?

Bimberley · 04/02/2015 15:36

MEgirl, yes I did have an epidural. In fact I had two, as the first failed.
Both made me feel numb but I could feel all pain still. Felt awful with raised heart rate after they done them, which then dropped low after birth! Maybe it was them?

Will try to include more red

If you drink orange juice with a meal it helps your body absorb the iron - every little helps!
I couldn't stand either Bimberley. DS was in SCBU and I could only get to see him if someone was available to take me in a wheelchair - it was only down a corridor Sad As Ds was my first I assumed what I was feeling was normal, it was only after DD came along 2 years later that I realised it wasn't.
Make sure you tell the GP everything.
