to wonder why school constantly ask for help, yet make it so hard for us to do so?

This baffles me, and I'm on the verge of just leaving them to it.

DD2's school takes part in a huge dance competition every year. It's a huge thing that goes all over the country and is a lot of work.

Our school doesn't hold auditions and it's open to all in KS2 who want to take part. It's very popular and this year there are 90+ children taking part, so in addition to the people working on the actual performance with the children, there's an awful lot of backstage stuff to be done - scenery, props, costumes to be made.

DD2 absolutely loves taking part and this will be her 3rd year, DD1 (now in secondary school) loved it when she was there too and did it for 4 years at primary and is now doing it with her secondary.

School are always begging for help and as my kids have always taken part and got so much out of it, I really feel that I should help where I can, but they make it so difficult for us and they make you feel like you're a complete nuisance.

We're less than 10 days away from the big performance and there's still a massive list of stuff to do so panic has set it. School had arranged a workshop for today asking for parents to go in from 9am onwards. About 20 of us turn up, no one at school was really expecting us and there was nowhere for us to go so we all got sent home again.

It's so frustrating

I feel your pain! It's bad enough trying to get people to help out with this sort of thing at all, but when 20 of you make to effort to turn up and get sent away again...

No doubt there will be an email sent out three days before the event pleading for help!

Scholes34 · 04/02/2015 13:24

Wouldn't this be better passed over to a group of parents to manage on behalf of the school?

GokTwo · 04/02/2015 13:27

How ridiculous! What a waste of your time? Is there one teacher with overall responsibility?

Yep, and then when it's all over we'll get a letter home complaining that school won't be able to do this kind of stuff anymore if they don't get more parental help.

Scholes probably. But the head won't relinquish it
