To think that BBC should have a radio show for children?

BBC has a whole channel dedicated to children on TV. More and more parents are worrying about the ever increasing screen time that children are now expecting and demanding, especially because some research appears to suggest that too much screen time could be damaging.

AIBU to think that BBC should at the very least have a show on radio, if not a channel, for young children? Would your DC listen to it?

My 12 year old ds loves listening to the Infinite Monkey Cage and, at his request, we have been working our way through all the series episodes available on R4 iplayer at the moment. He also loves Cabin Pressure and listens to a few other comedy shows. He is listening to Flight of the Conchords at the moment on 4extra. He has got into a habit of listening to one programme a night before bed and it's a nice way to wind down to sleep.

there are loads of kid friendly podcasts

What podcasts could my ten year old DD listen to in the early evening please? She has trouble sleeping and would feel happy with something light...can I get podcasts on her tablet?

SaucyMare · 04/02/2015 14:17

i just typed kids in the podcast app on my ipad, and story. my son likes storynory, but may be too young for a 10 year old. "young adult" is a more scary phrase to type in

Programmes For Schools on R4 at 3am weekdays. It switches to the World Service at 1am.
However I agree with PP about lots of R4 material being suitable for school age children.

I used to be able to get Fun Kids Radio through the Sky on the TV, but don't seem to be able to now.
Shame, as the DCs did enjoy it.

fun kids have podcasts

maninawomansworld · 05/02/2015 18:17

Oh god no!! Car journeys are heavenly sanctuary from the endless crap for kids on TV and all the rest of it. I couldn't face a couple of hours of bloody kids radio as well....

MrsTawdry · 05/02/2015 18:19

Saucy thanks but we don't have an ipad...just a tablet....

drspouse · 05/02/2015 18:40

We listen to Fun Kids on my internet music player. It is a bit full of dreadful pop, but not too bad.
You can listen to podcasts on any device, not just an iPad

MrsTawdry · 05/02/2015 18:55

I think DD would like stories...are there any like that?

CaptainJamesTKirk · 05/02/2015 18:58

Someone has probably already said but cbeebies has radio. DS loves it.

NormHonal · 05/02/2015 19:05

Cbeebies Radio, as already mentioned by a PP. It exists.

Fun Kids is great.
