I'm eating some sandwiches and I've had to use some really shitty bread that my DH purchased and it's frankly ruining my lunch Grin

I'm more than happy to buy own shop brands but I really do believe that some things have to be the 'real thing' and I will not buy cheaper versions to try and get a better deal.

My list includes cereal, nice bread, tea bags, Nutella and pasta sauces Grin

What about every one else??

I have a weird thing with apples, I can only eat Granny Smiths or Pink Ladies and they must be shiny without any blemishes or bruises, then I have to eat them in a certain way (eat the skin layer around the middle, then around the top section, then the bottom section and repeat with the flesh) I'm not quite sure HOW I started eating them that way, I just always have, I can't eat them like 'normal' people.
Cheap coffee tastes just like death to me and I refuse to eat sliced, white bread because it's just like pap to me. Those are my only two snobbery habits with foods but I do have a lot of quirks with food, e.g. I have to remove every, single part of pith to eat an orange/clem/satsuma, beans and eggs aren't allowed to touch, I refuse to eat ketchup or mayo, etc.

Badgerwife · 03/02/2015 13:14

I'm a sausage snob and can only eat the Finest ones or the flavoured ones. Richmond sausages make me want to barf and even the DDs won't go anywhere near them.

I also mostly stick to Cathedral or Anchor cheddar, at least there's always a discount going on.

Yes to real butter, preferably slightly salted, I just don't ever buy other types of spread.

Nutella - the other brands just don't taste the same!

I also cannot bring myself to buy Cadbury chocolate, before or after the american takeover. It's just watery shit as far as I'm concerned [hard hat on just in case]. Give me Lindt any day (or the Lidl white chocolate with crispies in)

GiantGaspingSatanicCyst · 03/02/2015 13:16

Fakey food. Diet spreads, 'yoghurt' full of sweeteners, decaf tea, UHT milk - I hate it all.

This makes dinner at my nan's house something of a trial :(

Badgerwife · 03/02/2015 13:17

Also, my DH will only eat Jordans chunky nuts Country Crisps. He tried all the other ones and said tesco messed about with their own recipe and it's not the same anymore. This after he complained that I wanted to buy their muesli because it was too expensive which it is but that's not the point

TedAndLola · 03/02/2015 13:18

Cheap crisps, bread and washing up liquid are no-nos. I'm pretty relaxed on everything else.

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 03/02/2015 13:22

I'm not too fussy bit tomato soup has to be Heinz and washing liquid has to be fairy platinum.

I am a snob about foods being as they are meant to be so real butter, full fat, absolutely no artificial sweeteners etc.

BellMcEnd · 03/02/2015 13:25

Lurpak slightly salted butter, Yorkshire tea bags, Heinz reduced sugar and salt baked beans, Sacla pesto (esp the firey chilli and tomato) and def no white sliced bread although I do eat toasted Mothers Pride at workWink

More than happy with loads of basics products though, especially tinned tomatoes

Wisteria1979 · 03/02/2015 13:36

Oh Furry, me too on the president butter!
I am v fussy with bread. Both type and freshness. Checking for date on every single loaf and hover around the bread isle for a long long time......

Thumbwitch · 03/02/2015 13:40

Food snobbery:
I won't use margarine or low fat spreads, only butter or mayonnaise (whole egg) in sandwiches or anywhere else. If a cake recipe demands non-butter (Nigella's muffins, for e.g.) then I'll use a lightweight oil instead, usually grapeseed.

I buy organic stuff still, where I can. I scrub non-organic apples to get the wax fungicide coat off them.

NOTHING is as good as Boursin garlic cheese. There is no substitute for it.

scotchmincepie · 03/02/2015 13:45

Someone mentioned ham. Have a real problem with wet ham. REally only eat ham carved off the bone now. Another expensive habit even if I cook it myself.

Had a work lunch the other day and it was sandwiches made with wet ham, formed beef, bacon from god knows where. The only thing that I could eat was the cheese and that was grated mild.

I know I'm a snob - but when eating on a budget I've gone veggie rather than eat cheap meat.

Dodgy burgers and sausages from vans - I used to work in a sausage bap van and I know exactly what they were made from...

A nice sausage from Borough market though...that's a different matter.

ourglass · 03/02/2015 13:46

I will not buy cheap meat or cheap alcohol.

SpringBreaker · 03/02/2015 13:48

longley farm cottage cheese - no other tastes anything remotely like it or as nice.

warburtons toastie - so glad that it is now easy to get in the South East as when I moved down here from Lancashire 15 years ago it was unheard of and I could only get it on my trips back home.

I cant stand instant coffee apart from Nescafe Azera.

Has to be butter, not margarine.

Eggs have to be free range, never battery.

Am sure there are loads more too, I admit to being a food snob.

Optimist1 · 03/02/2015 13:49

Much food snobbery here, but the most important one is coffee must be real, not instant !

Aberchips · 03/02/2015 13:51

Not too bad about most things - I will at least try the majority of own brand/Aldi specials.

No compromises on meat (esp. sausages & bacon), butter & tea (has to be Yorkshire!)

ijustwanttobeme · 03/02/2015 14:11

Sausages need to be premium ones if from a supermarket

Cornflakes need to be Kellogg's

Another Hellman's Mayo fan here

Spices and coconut milk for curries etc come from the 'ethnic' aisles if in a supermarket or from the Asian stores in Tooting. Much cheaper and you get more ??

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 03/02/2015 14:13

Ooh, despite me saying upthread that I'm not fussy about most brands, Spring has found one.

Yes, Longley Farm produce possibly the only variety of cottage cheese that is actually nice. Lidl and Waitrose both do one that is nearly acceptable, but in reality, I won't get anything but Longley Farm full fat variety. It's probably because it's 6% fat and all the other kinds are lower fat and therefore not nice.

Didn't realise Warburtons bread was for northerners only until quite recently. Grin

Thumbwitch · 03/02/2015 14:17

Cheap meat can be ok - I used to buy Tesco value turkey in chunks, because it was all leg meat, which stews better than breast meat. It didn't come in a "Best" range, it was just in the Value range! I miss that still...

Runnyhunny · 03/02/2015 14:18

Gail's bread, organic lean meat, expensive vino.. but the cheapest chocolate I can get my paws on!

SeeChooJimmy · 03/02/2015 14:34

I don't buy anything that is shop branded , Everything branded in here would take ages to list it all Blush

BrieAndChilli · 03/02/2015 14:59

I'm not fussy about brands on the whole as we range from being OK to skint to very very skint so often can't afford to be snobby
But I only like pg tips
I hate all 'diet' low-fat' or no added sugar stuff, it's full of other crap instead to mimic the taste so I would rather have a smaller amount of the real thing ie butter, yoghurt etc.

chocolateorsalad · 03/02/2015 15:08

I buy supermarket own-brand mostly but there's a few things I have to buy branded. Tea has to be Yorkshire Tea. I bought Waitrose Essential teabags because they had good reviews on Ocado, but they're so weak. Unfortunately I bought 160 of the bleeding things so once I'm through with them I'll be straight back on the Yorkshire Tea. Clipper tea is also really good but quite pricey.

Tomato soup has to be Heinz.

I don't buy crisps often but they have to be Kettle crisps.

I'm not a fan of the finest range sausages. Too much of a chunky texture for my liking. So I buy the butcher's choice ones. The cheapy range/Richmond ones make me gag. Pink slop!

MrsMarigold · 03/02/2015 15:12

I'm not a brand snob just a food provenance snob...

allypally999 · 03/02/2015 15:21

Tomato ketchup has to be Heinz (and yes I could tell blindfold) - not too fussy re anything else and actually prefer some cheap things like Asda cheap beans (nice and saucy)

Actually like cheap ham and sausages (must be my upbringing) but do buy nicer as its not full of scrapings from the floor (hopefully) so I assume better for me

I like Golden Wonder crisps and Thorntons chocolates but don't buy them often

HamishBamish · 03/02/2015 15:27

Baked beans, they have to be Heinz. I can't drink instant coffee either, but I only have it in the morning so it's not an issue.

I'm pretty flexible about most other things. I definitely have preferences, but am happy to eat most things.

Mintyy · 03/02/2015 15:30

I'm 95% food (although not particularly brands snob) and strawberries and asparagus in particular out of season give me the rage. No margarine, no aspartame, no junk food to speak of, no diet products ... but I do quite like a cup of instant coffee and have been slated to hell on here for admitting to that Grin.
