to think they can't have just vanished?

im going a bit crazy today.

I'm a lone parent and worked really hard to get my children a tablet each for Christmas. They were low end still but the children were happy.

Two of them have gone missing. tablets not children!

Thursday night I took three tablets from the children and put them in a box by my bed. The next evening two were gone. so far, never to be seen again.

suggestions are:

one of the kids is responsible. none are owning up.

I have moved them but being an airhead have forgotten. I have searched the house many times though and no sign.

I occasionally forget to lock my door on the school run. Someone came in and took them. But left the third?!

my new boyfriend took them. ex husbands suggestion. I've known new boyfriend for thirteen years and don't believe this is an option.

my ex boy friend took them to mess with my head and incidently got in touch out of the blue the next day. And again today. (mums suggestion)

I'm totally stumped. I dont know what to think. my eldest daughter thinks I am blaming her because she changed her mind about having used it in the morning and seems very un concerned her tablet is gone. my new boyfriend is hurt anyone would think he would do that. I think I'm going crazy. my mum thinks she is sherlock homes.

What do I do? They can't just have vanished, but they have?

I am amazed at your casual attitude to leaving your door unlocked when you leave the house.
They could well have been stolen so what are you going to do?

LaurieFairyCake · 02/02/2015 20:15

I think it's obvious your kids have lost them - they wouldn't be that unconcerned

DandyHighwayman · 02/02/2015 20:19

Yes I would think the children have had their sticky paws on them. Have you looked down side of/under their beds, in their drawers etc.

I would try to sneak a peek at them after lights out, see if there is a tell-tale Gollum-like glow from their bedrooms.

A useful strategy is to announce you won't be cross you just want to know where the tablets are, please. And don't be cross, say thank you sweetly. Assuming they are handed over, ofc.

Can u email them, or do something else to make them ping, or light up, or something? Then turn all the lights off and sit in silence to see if you can see/hear them?

debbriana · 02/02/2015 20:25

You should turn your house upside down. From one corner to the next without accusing any of them. You can do it it's your house and if one of them has taken it they have to learn to respect what you tell them next time.

SavoyCabbage · 02/02/2015 20:31

I would do a search like Deb says, all of you in the same room like a police search.

thetroubleis · 02/02/2015 20:34

Take all the chargers away. They will soon be useless and turn up if the kids have got them!

fassbendersmistress · 02/02/2015 21:51

Tell the kids you think you've been burgled and have called the police who are coming round to take fingerprints and investigate. You should be able to tell by their reaction if they were involved and at least rule that scenario in or out.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 02/02/2015 21:53

My money is on your DC having them but aren't owning up to it for fear of getting into trouble.

Was your door left unlocked that night? If not then I doubt someone stole them. And it would be odd to take two but leave one.

MrsPiggie · 02/02/2015 21:59

Are they Android tablets, are they registered with a Google account? You can ping them.

hiddenhome · 02/02/2015 22:03

Anyone with a history of drug taking? Things like this are easy to sell.

Celestria · 02/02/2015 22:05

im not casual as such but was brought up in the country, I'm a lot better at locking up than I used to be!

I have taken the chargers so we will see what comes of it.

problem with the Google Android device manager is the tablets need to be turned on. I think they are out of battery Sad

I have turned the house upside down again tonight, my mother too. Still no sign.

my door was locked at night. Always is. I'm bad for forgetting on the school run. so there would have been a half hour period that the door was unlocked with noone in.

I'm bad for forgetting on the school run.

That's a peak time for walk-in burglaries. The thief watches for a couple of days. He knows exactly when you will be leaving the house and for how long.

And of course you get no insurance payout if you haven't locked the door, or left a window open.

gamerchick · 02/02/2015 23:02

Run in and grab if you leave your door unlocked.

Report it to the police in case you're not the only one so they can issue a warning if there's a cluster of them.

debbriana · 04/02/2015 11:03

Can you give us an update on what has happened.

Celestria · 06/02/2015 10:15

we think my little cousin has taken them. He knows when I am out of the house and that I don't always lock the door. He was also bunking off school the afternoon they went missing v and was seen in the next Street. His mother had confiscated his phone etc too.

Can't prove anything though. Going to take me a while to replace them Sad kids only got them at Christmas.

Nomama · 06/02/2015 11:19

Email, text, letter to all rellies... include the ex!

Can you help me with a little bit of cash, please?... 2 of the kids Christmas presents have been stolen from the house [insert time and date]. The kids are devastated and I can't afford to replace them right now.

That way everyone is on alert, you are not accusing anyone and you might get a little bit of help, or. heaven forfend, a confession form the guilty party. My Nana did something similar (only letters and telephone calls in those days) when her ndns son burgled her. She knew it was him, but could prove it... his dad sorted it out in fairly quick time.

Nomama · 06/02/2015 11:19

could not - oops!

Comito · 06/02/2015 11:31

If you replace them, get a tracking app so you always know where they are.
