re Dyson hand driers: to be annoyed at eejits who can't use them?

Honestly, they even come with little pictures on them showing you to move your hands up and down through the jets of air, but 9 out of 10 times when I'm stood next to someone drying hands, I move mine and they just stand there doing nothing except maybe waggling their fingers below the air jets. Then they walk off, with still wet hands, wiping them on their clothes as they go and usually leaving the door handle wet.

I mean really, what don't people get about them?

I hate them because they sound like a jet engine and make my kids cry. I would quite like, one day, to leave a public toilet with dry hands.

PickleSarnie · 02/02/2015 15:11

YABU. It's their clothes they're choosing to wipe their wet hands on. I can't believe that after wiping their hands that they'd leave the door handle that wet.

It's the people that don't wash their hands and leave their wee germs on the handles you need to worry about.

Viviennemary · 02/02/2015 15:13

That's exactly what I do. I've haven't got time to hang about with my hands in the drier all day. And didn't realise about wiggling your fingers. You learn something every day on MN.

DoJo · 02/02/2015 15:24

I mean really, what don't people get about them?

How studiously other people are studying them? How likely they are to be judged for their lack of interest in mastering the IssyStark-approved technique? Why it matters if strangers have wet hands? Grin

Clawdy · 02/02/2015 15:25

You'd never have your hands in a Dyson drier all day! They dry in seconds, unlike the ordinary ones.

CaptainAnkles · 02/02/2015 15:26

They are too loud and make the skin on my chubby hands ripple and make me feel enormous and I'm not really.

Fluffyears · 02/02/2015 15:32

Washing your hands is wasted on public loos as the door handle is riddled with germs from people who don't bother and don't wash correctly with soap for 30seconds ensuring thumbs and between fingers. I see folk just run a bit of water over hands so not cleaning them at all. I do wash hands then use anti-bac afterwards. Bathrooms should have a door that opens outwards so you can just push with your body.

ToysRLuv · 02/02/2015 15:32

They are ridiculously loud and take a sledgehammer to a problem that can be tackled with a hammer, IMHO.

HedgehogsDontBite · 02/02/2015 16:03

I don't use them to dry my hands. I just like to watch the ripples, it's hypnotic.

Chippednailvarnish · 02/02/2015 16:15

They are far too loud and completely useless for kids who aren't tall enough to put their hands in.

Tyzer85 · 02/02/2015 16:19

At work we have jet hand dryers that blast the air out underneath, all well and good until I used the one in the disabled loo at crotch level, I looked like I'd wet myself as the dryer literally blasts the water off your hands.

southeastastra · 02/02/2015 16:25

my favourite are the long towels that you have to move down to get a clean bit. they're fab quiet and ethical Grin. and don't scare kids.

OOAOML · 02/02/2015 17:56

I'm not keen on the water blowing up into my face. Especially if the drier was still wet from the person before.

I love the dyson hand dryers. I play a wee game where I see if if can get my hands completely bone dry in less than the ten seconds it says it will take. I know I'm sad.

Our local shopping centre has some placed at low level for children, and it doesn't have a door to collect germs on.

NorahBone · 02/02/2015 18:32

Pulp

NorahBone · 02/02/2015 18:32

I've no idea how that happened - wasn't even the baby this time Blush

hazeyjane · 02/02/2015 18:33

They are far too noisy, but I do like watching the way the air blast gives me Manimal hands.

I prefer a nice pull down towel too.

HarryConnickSenior · 02/02/2015 18:37

In Asia where I live it is entirely normal to shield your clean hand from the door handle on exit by using a piece of tissue/paper towel. All my colleagues do it.

londonrach · 02/02/2015 18:40

Yabu they very very unhygienic. Next time you use one look at the bottom, bateria is being heating to a nice temp to breed. Best way of drying your hands is single use towel then use that towel to open the door, turn the tap off and drop in bin on way out.

FastWindow · 02/02/2015 18:44

Manimal hands! Yes yes yes!

hazeyjane · 02/02/2015 18:48

For you, Fast Window.

sashh · 02/02/2015 18:52

I'm mor bothered about the eejits who put them in the accessible toilets, you need to be

a) tall enough
b) able to stand
c) not be using a walking stick or other device because you need to do both hands at once

iwouldgoouttonight · 02/02/2015 18:52

They are far too loud, I don't like them. I'd much prefer a paper towel. Are paper towels worse for the environment by the way? Hand driers must use a lot of electricity so maybe they're as bad as each other.

TattyDevine · 02/02/2015 18:53

CaptainAnkles I dare you to stick your arse in there Grin
