To point out that the South West of England exists?

It does exist. Not just Cornwall and not just during August. Millions of people live here. Many of them would like to see shows which go on 'Nationwide' tours that don't come within 150 miles of their homes.

Grump.

I grew up in the South West and totally agree with this. Can I point out that there are also towns north of Birmingham too? Thank you please.

Jessica78 · 02/02/2015 14:13

What were you wanting to see?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 02/02/2015 14:19

YANBU. I have only lived in the SW for 2 years and have noticed this. Very frustrating!

DuchessDisaster · 02/02/2015 15:10

I grew up in Devon, it is a bit of a cultural desert. The RSC came to Devon some years ago to perform Romeo and Juliet, my parents got tickets (this was long after I left home), great. The performance was in either Barnstaple or Bideford. Hmm. Not much use if you were in the South Hams, then.

AlpacaPicnic · 02/02/2015 15:16

I have learned to accept that if I want to see anything, I have to travel for at least overnight to see it. Last year I went to Manchester for a show! We are quite lucky with the Theatre Royal in plymouth though, last month I saw Wicked. It was quite a luxury to be able to go home the same night...

CatsAreLikeChocolates · 02/02/2015 15:19

I totally feel your pain. We live in Wales (or the Far West); that mythical land of dragons that tour organisers don't seem to have heard of. A whole bloody country just wiped off the map. "Nationwide" my arse! Perhaps we can set up a campaign? Grin

Metalguru · 02/02/2015 15:21

Couldn't agree more

Fluffyears · 02/02/2015 15:24

YABU, Scotland misses out quite often. I get really angry when something says 'U.K. tour' but only has dates in England....erm there are 3 other countries here. I have travelled before and turned things into a weekend away plus event.

Nomama · 02/02/2015 15:33

YANBU. Scotland has its own problems but that does not diminish the isolation of the SouthWest.

I live in what is supposed to be a county city, right on the edge of the M5. But bugger all gets to us, it all goes to Bristol instead - and no, Bristol is not the only city with a University in Gloucestershire - really it isn't!

You only have to watch the weather, the local weather the one where the presenters head is usually masking us, we barely rate a finger point. On national weather we don't any time either, as we are neither Cornwall nor Wales! And the bloody local news is centred about 50 miles away!

Gloucester - the city the county is named after... abso-sodding-lutely in-bloody-visible!

So YANB, you have my sympathies.

Mrsjayy · 02/02/2015 15:33

Yip try living in Scotland although shows are starting to tour but its only been I the last few years I was wanting to see something on the UK tour but it stopped at Manchester Angry

GoringBit · 02/02/2015 15:39

What about using Twitter or facebook? Next time someone or something is touring, but nowhere near you, tweet or facebook, show that there's demand. You never know, if you make noise, you might get heard... If Ross Noble and Paul Merton can do Scunthorpe, surely they can do Truro, can't they?

PrincessPilolevuofTONGA · 02/02/2015 15:41

You think you've got it bad. What about the bit that isn't south east and isn't south west hmmm?
We can either have Brighton news programmes or Portsmouth. Both are hours and hours away.

Allegrogirl · 02/02/2015 15:50

YANBU. At least the Theatre Royal Plymouth has some good stuff but I'm more of a live music girl. Eden sessions usually get some good names.

Pre DC we used to go to Bristol or London and make a weekend of it. Just miss out now.

I thought your OP was going to be about transport. That truely sucks when you see what is being spent on other parts of the country. Westminster seems to think this is some kind of theme park for their enjoyment in the school holidays. Some of us actually live here.

Nomama · 02/02/2015 15:51

Princess, do you mean Central? - cos that's us and it is crap

girliefriend · 02/02/2015 15:56

Yanbu at all, have lived in the Somerset for a loooong time, when most of us were under water last year no other bugger in the country seemed to even know we existed!!

Nomama · 02/02/2015 16:02

Oh I know how that feels! 2007 for us. No way in or out and no drinking water until the army came for us, after about 10 days.

We relied on what became known as "The Only Well in the Village" and pooled tins and packets of food... delivered food to OAPs, checked everyone's leccy still worked (thank god it did), even the 4bees daren't try getting out.

We were mentioned, but apparently the water bowsers in town were the 'worst bits' for hundreds of people. Well, no actually. They weren't. Being flooded in and having no one deliver any water at all was the worst bit.

GuybrushThreepwoodMightyPirate · 02/02/2015 16:39

Well yes, the transport issue is also rather galling. I was hoping to go and see the Strictly tour some highly cultural shows though.

Fluffyears I know other parts of the UK often miss out too, but I don't think that makes me U to focus on the area I live I being ignored!

OP posts:
Moreshabbythanchic · 02/02/2015 16:50

Cornwall only exists in the months of July and August, well known fact.

OOAOML · 02/02/2015 17:54

Scotland does ok in the central belt, but a lot of other areas don't. And the public transport where I grew up was shit, so getting to stuff could be a nightmare.
