To not go to work today?

I had some bleeding on Saturday morning (bright red spotting) and have had a lot of cramping since, I presented at a&e Saturday morning and after not being seen for 4 hours and being made to sit on a hard bench in pain I decided I would rather walk home and call an ambulance if I got any worse.

So I called maternity triage this morning and they told me I'm in a "grey area" as I am only 19 weeks (19 weeks today) so I'm too far along to be seen by EPAU but not pregnant enough to be seen by maternity assessment unit so all I can do is present back at a and e and start again :(

AIBU to just not go to work today until this is all sorted out? Has anyone got any advice?

Oh bless you, you must be very worried. Personally I would re present at A&E and get seen, to put you mind at rest

I'm going to go to GP and see if they can refer me for a scan rather than waiting that long again. If not I will try and book a private one.

Gosh sorry to hear this. Of course you are not being unreasonable. Get yourself to A&E and take something to keep you occupied.

Get back to a and e lovey, take some snacks and a drink and a magazine. Should be quieter this morning.

I've booked a private scan at a private midwifery clinic where I will get checked over properly so that's a weight off my mind

Don't go to work. Try for a scan on NHS. If no luck, go private if you can.

No don't go in. Rest up or pop to docs if you can. Hoping you get seen to very soon. (I'm 38+2 so know how your feeling)

Don't go into work. I would be inclined to say go to the gp to get signed off a week or 2 tbh.

Similar thing happened to me, was 20 years ago so things might have changed. I felt I was treated badly, not much they could do but little sympathy. I got a letter to go in to see consultant the following week, I assumed it was linked to what was going on but when I saw him it was a routine meeting as I was so "elderly" nearly 40 (oh to be that elderly again) When I told him what was going on he was lovely, he called and got me an immediate scan, and as soon as that was done I saw him between appoinments. He reassured me and was so supportive so I wonder if maybe calling consultants secretary and asking for advice might work? I think sometimes people further up the chain take a different view.

I hope you are OK, it is a horrible time but it can work out OK, my strapping son is evidence of that.

Oh, missed the question. I was signed off for two weeks, lots of rest and being looked after. I don't know how you could go into work and be effective as if you are anything like me you won't be able to think of anything else.

Don't go to work but do seek medical attention. Please do not wait until you get worse before seeking medical attention. When you get to the stage where you will need an ambulance as you say you will be very very poorly.

Go to your GP - agree with others saying get yourself signed off for a couple of weeks and get some rest. Hope your scan goes well.

Shocking how when pregnant nobody is prepared to care for you because of the "grey area" and timings.

Don't go to work! Hopefully the midwifery clinic will be able to sign you off - if not, you can take a week off and self certify. This happened to me at 19 weeks, in the "grey area". My GP was brilliant, did some shouting, got me a scan the next day. I was fine, and DD2 is now 14. Smile

Hope today brings some positive news for you.

I've got a GP appointment and a private scan today, last time I got an urgent scan for bleeding in pregnancy I had to wait 15 horrible days. So I've already had bleeding in this pregnancy and I have a clot in my womb from where the baby implanted but I don't know if that has caused it?

Please try not to worry. I bled through the whole of one of my pregnancies so it's not always an issue. I bled whilst giving birth and had a lot more locia than with other baby but there was nothing wrong with baby at all. Sometimes sex can cause bleeding if you have a cervix that is prone to it. Best wishes for your scan and with GP.
