To have used this changing room?

Hi, I'm interested in views as I can be a little belligerent at times and wonder what the MN consensus is. DC's (5 and 3) have swimming lessons at a local pool after school once a week. The facility is great but it can get chaotic in the changing room especially if seeking a bigger one to be able to get both kids changed. People commonly leave clothes and belongings on the benches whilst their kids are in the pool and so it can be a nightmare wandering around with two sopping wet youngsters to find a place big enough to get them changed. This week I found a lovely big cubicle but someone had left a bag in it. There was no sign of an owner and so I went ahead and took my kids in. About 5 mins in a mum appeared with two kids in tow and banged on the door asking for the bag. Both of mine were starkers so I opened the door a crack and passed her the bag saying sorry I did realise.. She didn't say anything to me but took said bag and loudly shouted to her mate about how bloody rude I was to nick her cubicle and could her mate believe it!

AIBU to be fed up with folk bagging cubicles? Should I have kept hunting for a empty space. I actually picked this one in the end as the stuff was in a bag rather than left sprayed over a bench and it felt too rude even for me to move kids Knicks! The lockers are expensive and I don't use them but I do take a large shopper and stuff their clothes in and take it all to the viewing gallery rather than leave it in a cubicle!

thanks for reading Smile

YANBU - you can't bag cubicles, FFS. Okay, maybe if she'd just popped to the loo or something, but not for the duration of a swim.

mom2twoteens · 31/01/2015 21:50

You should have taken the bag to Reception saying you'd found it in a cubicle and thought maybe someone had left it behind, you didn't want it to get stolen after all.

Or you could have left it outside the cubicle, in a wet patch obviously.

LOL

abigamarone · 31/01/2015 21:53

You're not being unreasonable at all, used to drive me spare when folk left their crap all over the benches instead of in a locker. I just used to shove it all to one end. As for leaving it in a cubicle, serves them right for leaving it.

Next time put bag into a locker ( unlocked) and if asked say you have no idea.

Happens all the time at our local pool, never had anyone go ballistic at me for it.

ILovePud · 31/01/2015 21:58

YANBU and she was rude and selfish, I think moving her bag to an unlocked locker and denying all knowledge is a brilliant idea though (and one I will use if I find myself in this situation).

WorraLiberty · 31/01/2015 22:01

I would've placed the bag outside the cubicle door.

justbatteringon · 31/01/2015 22:01

Do you not get your money back from the lockers? That's how our pool is.

ChippingInLatteLover · 31/01/2015 22:02

We have this drama at swimming lessons too. There's a big board asking people not to leave their stuff in the cubicles so others can use them.

They've now put a note on each door and inside the cubicle.

Have people stopped doing it? Have they fuck.

I just tell the kids to choose a cubicle. (There are only cubicles, no changing room as such) and I wait outside the cubicles for them. Last week some woman was huffing and puffing because she was sure that was the cubicle with her things in it... I waited until the DC came out and she looked in huffily and said 'Yes, It IS!'. I saw red after 2 years of this... I prodded at the sign and said to her 'You know you aren't supposed to leave your stuff in here, so don't damn well complain when someone else uses it. Stop being so selfish leaving all your stuff in there!'

She just muttered and went into the cubicle. There's a gaggle of them that go together so no doubt they'll be pointing and glaring this week.

:).

Caronaim · 31/01/2015 22:04

YANBU you can't "bag" a cubicle - silly woman. Just move all the stuff outside the cubicle and use the cubicle yourself.

Thanks all, unis I think you swim in a naicer place than me Wink. amythyst to be fair I don't know whether it had been there all swim or just dropped it off on route to get them but mine came out quite late and faffed about in the shower so we def weren't the first into the changing room. mom to my shame I must admit it was left on a fold down change unit which fills half the cubicle, I did put it on the floor but did check it wasn't wet first. Had she turned up with baby in tow I also would have apologised profusely and left her too it but this wasn't the case.

To be honest it really riles me. Even dd said "mummy I think that lady was a bit rude!"

Thanks all for the positive replies. Don't feel quite so ridiculous now. I must admit though we got changed in super speed and got out of there. Of course though, what's the betting I bump into her again next week!!

Cross posts to lots of you. I wouldn't have dared to leave it outside the door but guess it's her risk for leaving it in a public place! Maybe a route for another week!

ChippingInLatteLover good on you, I've taken a vicarious satisfaction from hearing your story, I hope it felt good saying that to that daft woman. That's the kind of thing I say but only in my head a few minutes after they've walked away.

Pilgit · 31/01/2015 22:12

If our local pool finds this they get taken to lost property. They are vigilant about it.
