to wonder why owner/occupiers arent compelled to have gas safety checks.

Ive been pondering why this is just recently. Its suppossed to be about safety. So surely the same rules should apply. Tenants have to accomodate it and usually end up being pissed around because of it. landlords can sometimes end up being pissed around too. So if safety is what its REALLY about surely the same rules should apply for every property.

I've never had my own boiler serviced. I do ensure that the boiler in the house I rent out is serviced annually in addition to the legally required gas safety checks ( which also covers the hob etc.)

My house, my lookout. It's detached, if that makes anyone less concerned about my neighbours...

No Caronaim that's not quite true. Getting a boiler serviced isn't the same thing as a gas safety check. You can have a gas safety check done without having any appliances serviced. But I grant you, it would be very irregular for a gas engineer to service a boiler without checking it was burning correctly etc so in that sense, the boiler is given a safety check - but the remainder of the gas supply isn't.
