to think spending 600 on a new phone that is only slightly better than current working one is vulgar

Dp and I can afford it, but I just find it quite wastful and is actually a huge amount of disposable income.

Aibu to veto this until the current one brakes?

Poor working conditions aside (which is something I do care about), it does kept people in much needed employment, from Start, planning, design etc to finish, the sales end.

Also, what will you do with the old one, if your passing it one, it's being recycled and if you sell it on cheap, then your giving someone who may not be able to afford a new phone, the opportunity to have a decent one.

I spent a "vulgar" amount in my face, in terms of how much disposable income I have, but we live in a world dependant on people buying goods and services.

If you are rich enough to get a £600 phone even though the old one still functions then fine so long as you pass the "old" one on ethically ie trade it in, sell on eBay, give to someone as long as it gets used and doesn't sit in a drawer as that is wasteful.

That said, how rich you need to be to do something as frivolous as this is:

-mortgage paid off (otherwise the 600 should be paid off that)
-substantial savings (otherwise the 600 should be going there)
-big salary (100k plus) (otherwise the 600 should be going on living expenses)

If you meet my criteria feel free to blow the £600. Grin.

What will he get for selling the old one?

Utterly bizarre isn't it. My DH "had" to get an iPhone 6+ and he is tied in to a 50 quid a month! Contract for 2 years! But of course he HAD to upgrade from his ancient iPhone 5....ridiculous. This is the man who owns one pair of jeans and wears ten year old tesco value sweatshirts...somehow he manages to hold down a well paid job and he has few other vices so I shrug and let him get on with it.

I am no Luddite but my iPhone 4S is fine and costs me a tenner a month on a sim only deal....
