... That I've just eaten in bloody tesco finest red velvet cake??

Friend brought it over for lunch. She had 1/8... Through the day I have eaten about 1/2 of the cake (possibly more Blush)

One slice left. About to throw box away and see "not suitable for vegetarians". Out of curiosity, start googling ingredients starting with cochineal.

WTF.

YES I've probably been hidden under a rock to have never realise until now that it's made out of bugs. Female bugs. Not sure why that makes a difference but prob makes me think of them on their periods releasing this red dye.

Anyway. Not really an AIBU but needed to rant and maybe have someone tell me they would have been just as thick ignorant as me in not realising sooner.

Seriously feel sick and also hate tesco because the cake was actually quite nice. I don't understand the need to put squashed bugs in a cake... Is that was qualifies it as "Finest"??

Yeah but they're nestle which is more than enough reason to avoid regardless of ingredients!

dibdobs · 30/01/2015 07:01

I knew about cochineal but never thought about bugs in bread pasta etc i eat tons of it! Yuk :(

Iggi999 · 30/01/2015 07:20

Hooray! That has quite made my day Smile And Ds' too no doubt.
Though now I have to factor buying a nestle product into my conscience (maybe once a year? Blush )

Iggi-unless you make an effort to avoid nestle, it's quite likely you buy more than once as they are the parent company to oh so many other brands now, including the Body Shop for example
