to want snow in London?

So we could have a snow day with DS and go play in the snow (he only saw snow when he was a baby so won't remember, but he's 2 now and I think would really enjoy it) plus of course not having to go to work is pretty good in itself.
Also I grew up in a country where we always had snow in the winter, proper snow, and each year I was really excited when the first snow came, I guess I miss that.
DH thinks I'm silly and it would be horrible and it was only exciting because I was a kid.
I think he's being a killjoy. AIBU?

I'm so over the snow now, we've had it for weeks. It had just cleared up and It's now absolutely chucking down again. Please take some of ours Smile

HedgehogsDontBite · 28/01/2015 21:06

I wish we had some snow. I'm in Sweden. AIBU to expect some snow in winter in Sweden? It cold and damp and grey and miserable. Might as well have stayed in England :(

Just got to the end of our second day off school because of snow. I've shovelled and snowblowed and dragged the puppy into howling blizzards to poo and I still have to snowblow some more then work out how the children will get to school tomorrow through drifting snow.

Snow's fun as a child. For an adult is fecking hard work.

My DS desperately wants snow, I tell him it's fun for children, less fun for adults.

On one particular snow filled day, I left mega early to drive the horrendous journey to work (DH was home with the DC. He can work from home, they had a snow day)

Patients were turning up at all weird times, either really early or very late depending on how far they were or how they were travelling.
My last appointment was late (as in 20 minutes late , I phoned them to find they had "just left " their wife cheerfully told me). They were meant to have got there 20 minutes before, if you phone a cab, you need to allow for them to be busy, and extra travelling time - or cancel.

Of course, it delayed my getting home massively. Because I don;t have a life Hmm

I hate snow with a passion. we got snowed in yesterday 26 1/2 inches of the damn stuff. :o

Thats 1 storms worth. Picture 1 is front of my house and picture 2 is Dd2 in a snow drift in my back yard, she was playing helping me shovel a path to the deck

I
I don't want it to snow in London. I don't live there I live in Scotland, but I dont want to have to endure the blanket coverage on the national news and the mass hysteria amongst residents of the south east of England (cancelled buses, school closures etc) when confronted with a millimeter of powdery snow.

Shandy drinking southern softies. The lot of you!

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 29/01/2015 01:17

If there's going to be snow London/Kent I insist it's at least 12 inches - so I don't have to do the horrible "will I/won't I" try and do the school run!

We were snowed in for 10 days in Dec 10. It was great

MajorasMask · 29/01/2015 01:20

All I've got in Manchester tonight is hail, miserable, miserable hail. I travel to uni in Nottingham on the train a couple of times a week - between Stockport and Sheffield it was like a postcard, untouched snow on the hills for ages around, gorgeous. We had approximately 10 minutes of snow earlier in the week but now it's just going to be slippery and dull, not magical at all :( I probably wouldn't enjoy snow as much if I could drive, though!

onemiddlefinger · 29/01/2015 08:58

SabrinaMulhollandJjones Yes! i would love 12 inches of snow.

All of you up north who are complaining about the snow, I can understand it's difficult, but I don't feel sorry for you - I'm actually jealous! (not of those people that have to drive in dangerous conditions, that really isn't fun)

Lovely pictures theoldtrout01876, but it makes me want it even more now...

Not unethical, just crazy. If you really want some snow, you might want to check with someone in Boston, MA, to see if they'd ship you some. I'm sure they'd be willing to give you all you could shovel to take home with you.

frankie001 · 30/01/2015 15:56

Nope, am a grump who doesn't want snow. Have been ill in bed all week with no heating. The thought of snow makes me want to cry.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 30/01/2015 16:00

Yes yes yes ! I feel like I am letting my DD down by living here and having her miss out on the snow fun.

Theoretician · 30/01/2015 16:15

Bulbs have been sprouting since weeks ago, but today I noticed daffodils actually blooming during my walk to local shop. Wouldn't want snow to kill everything.

Unidentifieditem · 30/01/2015 16:35

I want snow. Despite the fact I broke my arm when we last had snow in London I still want some. DD would love it. Remember that snow day back in 2008 or was it 2009? When everyone stayed home and built snowmen on the usually busy streets? Grin

victoryinthekitchen · 30/01/2015 17:45

we've had snow in the north west and power off for 16 hours, dc loved it and there's a huge snow man in the garden but didn't enjoy getting dressed by torchlight!

susiella · 31/01/2015 09:05

It's snowing here. (North Notts). Nasty horrible stuff. Cold miserable day. Spoiled our plans AGAIN. Can't wait for spring. No, don't ever want it to snow. My 11 year old daughter agrees. It's vile stuff

ilovesooty · 31/01/2015 10:02

I generally wonder whether those who are so keen on snow don't work or have jobs where they get paid time off or their work isn't significantly disrupted if they don't manage to turn up. I also wonder whether they don't drive and therefore don't have the worry of negotiating dangerous roads, not to mention concerns about falls and injuries.
I'm concerned about all those things and have had a lot of "killjoy" comments from people I know simply because I see snow as hassle at best and dangerous at worst.
