To think that sometime GPs and health visitors don't know what they are talking about!

I think DD has cows milk protein intolerance. She's had classic symptoms improved since I've been dairy free.

Saw the GP for advice on formulas and weaning. She said see health visitor.

Health visitors given me a list of milks but can't prescribe them....back to GP!

They have also both used the term CMP intolerance and allergy interchangeably and also lactose intolerance which AFAIK is very rare in babies!

AIBU to think they should be a bit more knowledgable esp the HV?

Yes Free Wee it was part of the many reasons come hell or high water I wanted to bf my 3rd. He showed all the refluxy signs of the same intolerance as dd1 but he too had the same awful bf problems as his 2 sisters. I finally unearthed someone who knew what to do, diagnose and treat tt, improve positioning to help shallow latch and 3 kids in I finally got bf sorted. He loves cow's milk now but it was a minimal part of his diet until he was 2.5 which I think helped.

Not sure if you realise how much they go through to become a health visitor. They go review after review and half of the cohort leave before the end because it's so hard. Most end up leaving before they fail. Health visitors in my area are going to be able to prescribe in the future not sure about where you are. They will not be highly experienced in the allergy side of things , although they have their nursing experience and may have attended courses/training in regards to this it is always your GP for this king of thing. As a mother you have your instincts which I agree are usually right , but remember love and worry = paranoia at times. Anyway I would go back to GP if I were you , good luck
