Well actually more like 5/7 nights a week??
Dc 7 and 5.

Most nights reading and timestables/number work.
3 times a week spellings for oldest added in.

This is in addition to the once a week topic task.

They do sports twice a week and clubs twice a week but I finding the pace exhausting. I am doing it as I think they could be further on at school but typical middle ability and not noticed type children.

I'm shattered though

I'm a big gobsmacked the aerobics is considered more useful than reading or basic maths skills.

I have a colleague who can't read and understand his payslip or accurately calculate invoices, which leads him to losing lots of money . I'll tell him to get some legwarmers.

I don't agree with homework for primary aged children at all, but kind of reluctantly accept that it is now deemed necessary towards years 5 and 6.

If my kids (10, 7 and 4) want to do their homework, they do it, with support from me, I am led by them in this. If they don't, fine. Forcing them would be joyless and counterproductive in my opinion and experience.

What we have done, every single night is share books for half an hour at bedtime, one to one, or all together or some permutation of them reading to and with each other. We choose high quality texts and really enjoy them. The older two also read to themselves into the small hours if we would let them forget to turn their light out.

So OP if you are knackered, do less. Do it what makes you all happiest. I think less is more sometimes with this stuff.

Listening to your child read / doing regular times tables / maths isn't school work / homework really though. It's just parenting, not "extra" time at all.

My eldest, 7, reads every day and has has one piece of homework plus a times table test every week so the start of the week is usually quite full on and then quest until
Friday when the new homework is set.

My 4 year old is in reception and gets him book changed most days if we've done reading the evening before plus phobic words to practice.

I'd say we do 4-5/7 but it's not intense just some reading or some times tables.
