To not be great flu that I still have my leg and wish they'd cut the damn thing off.

Yes I am being utterly unreasonable but so fed up so go easy on me.

I had osteosarcoma in 2007, the tumour was in my leg, huge, and attached to my muscles. I needed to have chemotherapy and something called a distal femural replacement and also needed 87% of my quadriceps removed. I have about 2 inches of healthy femur bone near my hip.

When my (wonderful and talented) surgeon performed the surgery he had yo literally hammer the prosthesis into the remaining femur bone which has caused multitudes of nerve damage.

My leg has always been bad, but it is SO bad at the moment. The bushings in my knee have gone so I can't walk far without my knee hurting or bend it too much and it's constantly giving way and making me fall. I'm finding that it's exasperating the nerve damage pain much worse than usual and I'm in constant pain, limping, struggling. I feel pathetic.

I've walked part way down the road, started to be in agony, and be stuck where I am because I can't physically walk anymore, god knows how many times over the last 8 years.

I'm so fed up, I'm only young and just wish I could go for a nice walk :-(

Sometimes I think life would have been easier if I had lost my leg and has to use a full prosthesis :-(

Someone talk some great fullness into me :-(

My best friend was in unbearable pain due to the cancer nerve pain . It was bloody harrowing . And now , thanks to chemo and morphine she is back to being able to manage
Oh and I had both tramadol and morphine when pregnant

I've not read past you're OP, but you might find this article provides an interesting perspective. Having read this, I don't think you're being utterly unreasonable, if your pain is so constant and debilitating.

SauvignonBlanche- he's wonderful, and he does listen, when I see him.. Problem is lately it's been his registrars and there's no consistency! I'm also concerned that he's due to retire soon.... I need the knee/bushing revision done by him before he goes!!!

Lostinwales- do you think you could please point me in the direction of the thread you mentioned??? It sounds like it'll be very helpful!

Fromparis- I really don't get on with morphine unfortunately, I think I'd rather take cysplatin (a chemo drug) again before I take that! For some reason it just did not suit me at all! I was fine with tramodol though, will look into this further!

Ouryve I became quite teary eyed with envy when I read that article! To a lot of people amputation seems like the end of the world, to people who have lived with pain IT seems like the start of a whole new one!

Please do op . Whatever you decide in the short term there will be some level of more effective pain management

How many months pregnant are you ?

SauvignonBlanche · 28/01/2015 13:37

Ask for a new apoinand say that you want to see the consultant, you can't see them every time but if it's been all registrars for a while then it's a perfectly reasonable request.

I can't believe he's near retirement age, I feel very old now, I met him when he was Mr Briggs and a new young consultant!

Fromparis- I'm seeing my GP this afternoon to figure out short term pain management with painkillers/ muscle relaxants... Hopefully I come out of there with a decent prescription!

Sauvignon- he was still a Mr when I first met him, I the Prof. Title only came about in the last few years! Such a lovely man though, funny how everyone whose been involved in orthopaedics know exactly who he is!
