To think I might give birth to the coil?

i had it fitted 2 weeks ago. Dr told me I'd get cramping and pains for first few days and bleeding can be erratic for a couple of months.
I was in lots of pain the first week, far worse than I thought it was going to be.
Last week it was mostly ok, just a few pains that soon went.
Today I'm in lots of pain and bleeding.
I'm not soft with pain, I've suffered with terrible periods for the past 20 years (God that makes me feel old!) and I've given birth twice with only G&A for pain relief.
The pains I'm getting are more like labour pains than just period pains, a strong cramping feeling that's all around my back & tummy.

Is this normal?

I've heard some women's bodies expell the coil, do you think this might be happening?

Oh and another thing, my boobs have started lactating. I'm hoping it's just my hormones adjusting. Anybody experienced this before?

Have you done a pg test?

shouldnthavesaid · 26/01/2015 11:50

I had full on contractions with mine in the first six weeks or so. I was told the coil was descending with each contraction, but would sort of spring back in between. It never did come out - I felt it could come out if I pushed it, but it was too painful. Somehow a year or so on it hasn't come out yet.

I did get lots of good painkillers though, and injections a couple of times

Sorry, finished too soon - I meant to say that I wouldn't hesitate to ask GP for something stronger if you need it!

I can't be pregnant, i miscarried about 2 months ago and we haven't had sex since.

I have had the copper coil in for almost a year. For the past two weeks I have had the same pains as you so I was sent for a scan and told the coil has moved down so it needs to be replaced. I'm also not protected from pregnancy so it's a good thing I had the pains really, as I would be unaware it moved if not.
I'd speak to the place where you got the coil fitted and they will check it is in place.

The doctor gave me codeine as the pain is quite severe. I was shocked I could be in so much pain just from a coil moving!

concretekitten · 26/01/2015 12:00

Ok thanks. I'll speak to Dr about painkillers, I've been taking paracetamol & ibuprofen and it's only been taking the edge of the pain.

Yeh when I'm having a number 2 I'm worried I'm going to push the coil out too

Oh concrete, I'd go back and get it checked- it may well have moved down to your cervix and it's stimulated you to have contractions to push it out.

I'm so sorry about your MC Flowers
Is this a mirena or a copper coil? I ask as its unusual to start lactating... I'd definitely get a full exam and a DnC before getting another coil in.

Hope you feel better soon.

doormouse04 · 26/01/2015 12:17

I had the mirena coil fitted twice. The first time i thiught it was coming out but the doctor didnt believe, until it did! Tried again and the same thing happened, the dr said it was too expensive to waste another on me and i agreed. Each time this happened wirhin one week of havong it fitted.

concretekitten · 26/01/2015 12:28

It's the mirena coil.
It's ok thanks, I'm ok about the MC, the pregnancy was unplanned and we weren't sure whether we were going to continue with it, and then nature made the decision for us. I just try and see it as a late period, I was only about 5 weeks.

I'm going to ring my dr's n see if I can get GP to call me back n speak to her about it.

Dormouse - what did it feel like when it came out? Did it hurt?
It feels different today, my cervix feels heavy

yes, i believe you shoudl be able to feel the threads

HollyBdenum · 27/01/2015 10:26

My first (copper) coil fell out after 6 months. I had really bad pains for a few days after it was put in, and then very bad period pains until it came out. I had it replaced with a smaller 5 year one and felt mild discomfort the day it was put in and have been fine since.
